Welcome to Haunted Realm where anything everything related to the paranormal is up for discussion. I’m Jake Williams from Houston, TX, and I love all things paranormal, whether I’m investigating a haunt or hearing from someone who has encountered paranormal activity.
When people hear the word “paranormal,” the first thing that comes to mind is haunted houses and ghosts. But the word actually encompasses much more than spirits. The actual definition for a paranormal investigator is “a person who investigates claims regarding the presences of ghosts, demons, spirits, aliens, lake monsters, the chupacabra, and other “strange and bizarre” things.” So, based on this definition, it’s clear that the word “paranormal” can mean anything from local legends to the Loch Ness monster herself.
For those of you who don’t think paranormal investigation is legit, there are various organizations and groups that gather to raise money, raise awareness, and explore new techniques. One example is the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP), a national organization based in the UK. They have a list of about 45 topics that are covered by their organization, including: crop circles, telepathy, visions, UFOs, levitation, dreams, hallucinations, hypnosis, etc.
So you see, paranormal covers more than just ghosts and haunted houses. Even the smallest thing that seems out-of-the-ordinary or supernatural is most likely enough for a PI (paranormal investigator) to come and investigate.
One big debate amongst the PI community is whether or not to use scientific techniques and tools in investigations, something we will go into in the next article.
For now, more on myself. Like I said, I live in Houston, TX. I’ve always been interested in the paranormal. Years of watching horror films will do that to you. A few years ago, I turned my passion for the supernatural into a hobby that I explored in my down time.
The great thing about the paranormal is that no one is an expert. This is a relatively new field with thousands of years of nothing more than stories to support the idea of the paranormal and just several years of investigation into paranormal instances. There’s no real concrete evidence or proof that prove or disprove the existence of the paranormal. Because of this uncertainty and lack of hard evidence, anyone new to the field can join and simply learn everything from the information shared among the community. There is no certificate or degree required. Just a healthy sense of skepticism and a desire to explore areas that others have deemed too “haunted” or “scary.”
Remember the Mystery Inc. gang from Scooby-Doo? That was just a ragtag bunch of high schoolers who had a hunch and followed it, leading to the formation of their mystery-solving gang. Though they’ve been able to identify each monster, ghost, and ghoul as nothing more than a man in a mask, current PIs haven’t been so lucky. That is part of the reason I joined in the ongoing paranormal investigation. There is still so much more to find out and so much that is yet to be proven. As someone who loves mystery and is intrigued by the unknown, I consider it my responsibility to investigate what I can when the situation presents itself.
I hope you’re checking out this site because you too want to go on this adventure. Feel free to tag along on my adventures and learn more about being a paranormal investigator with me. There’s plenty more to come.
