The Haunted Dog:

On February 6th 2008 myself Kirsty and Jon (co-founders of HRPI) recieved a phone call from a lady by the name of Elaine who was in a state of distress. Elaine went on to explain that she needed the help of HRPI as she had purchased a brass ornamental dog from a local charity shop in the Rotherham area in November of 2007 but this was not any ordinary dog, this dog had a life of it's own. Elaine went on to tell us what had actually occured since she had purchased the dog, she told us how herself and three other members of her family had seen the dog levitate into the air over the top of her fireplace and fly with force across the living room, the dog went onto fly from the top of the TV when it was not plugged in and had not been all night as it was early morning so it could not have been vibration from the TV itself.

The dog would be placed in a specific spot and then would be found in another location around the house even when no-one was at home all day as they would have been at work, we spoke to several of the people who had witnessed the dog fly across the room or who had witnessed some of the dog's strange behaviour (not all of the people we interviewed were Elaine's family members) and they all gave us the exact same account of what they had seen. The strange occurances with the dog continued and escualted, they got so bad that Elaine's 15 year old daughter would no longer stay in their home and would spend most of her time at her grandmother's. This is when Elaine began looking for help and that is how and why she got in contact with HRPI she called us at 11.00a.m on Saturday 6th February and asked for us to attend her home urgently, after we had interviewed and spoken to the family Elaine asked us would we be willing to take the dog home with us and keep it ourselves (Jon being the sceptic he his said "Yes" instantly but me i was rather wary and did not know what to expect). We now have the dog in our possession and will be bringing it with us to the next meeting on February 12th 2008.

Ghosts? “I Should Say Not”

Ghosts? “I Should Say Not”

What is a ghost? Is it something you see? Is it something you hear? Is It something you touch? Or could it even be something you smell; a familiar odour that’s as once synonymous with person that was near to you?

Well it all began for me was I was about 5 years old when I lived at a house on Molineaux Road in Sheffield, on a regular basis I could smell pipe tobacco and no one in our family smoked that. On numerous occasions my mother would comment that “he’s back” later on in my life I found out that the man who used to live in the house before us had died in there and he was a regular pipe smoker so was this the ghost of this man?

As a sceptic which I have been all my life, and I bet you are saying while you are reading this “hang on what’s going off here has Jon turned into a believer” well no I haven’t sorry, the pipe smoke was something I couldn’t explain and the family who live there now still smell it but I can’t really class this as paranormal.

When I was nine years old I moved back from the Isle of Man and moved in with my sister in Walkley in Sheffield, we lived in a house on Burgoyne Road and this was the second experience of what you class as paranormal. The house was on four levels a cellar then the living room and kitchen area then upstairs to the bedrooms and then up a small staircase up to a loft area and this was the place I didn’t like going up, at the age of nine my mind would play tricks on me and I found this to be a dark and scary place to visit. On a weekly basis everyone in that house would hear children playing and singing and generally moving about in the loft area and yes this did include me hearing this and every time someone would go up to investigate these noise no one would be there.

So how do I dismiss this as not being a haunted house, well I can’t this was the only place in my whole life up to now I can say was haunted, oh my god did I just admit to that well its true it was and its such a shame its been knocked down now cause I would have loved to have gone back there to investigate it with the group. Ok I’m more opened minded to the paranormal then i admit to everyone, but I’ve never seen what is classed as a ghost, I think I got out of that quite nicely.

Maybe I got more sceptical as I got older sitting in the dark in some of the most haunted buildings  in the united kingdom while nothing happened time after time after time while it cost me a small fortune to get into some of these places.

But going on investigations hasn’t damped my enthusiasm if anything its wetten my apatite if not to investigate looking for ghosts but to look at the history of the building we go too.

Ghost Story:

Ghost Story

HRPI Member Mark Phillips

When I left college I Had a job at a local hotel(Rowley Manor, where I worked  was the commis chef. I was the night cook and enjoyed working in the old building that had been built before 900. The hotel had been an manor house in the days when Richard the third had been in nearby Yorkshire town. And it was considered old then! I had heard tales of other boys from my year at school that had gone to work there and had fled screaming from the building because of "the ghosts". I was never a person to get scared easily , and to this day it takes a lot to convince me of anything I haven't seen and felt myself. So... the evening shift held no great fear for me. The kitchen was -and is- at the back of the building and the floor is made of cobblestones and flagstones cool in summer and downright freezing in the winter. From the first kitchen, you have to go through four separate and windowless rooms to the far larder... And then turn round and come back out again because there is no other way out. This is important to know and to remember when you think you've seen the landlady go down to the far larder for the meat and you don't see her come back again! This happened more than once. Some of the stuff that happened was quite funny. Ann -a girl who worked with me- was drying cutlery one night and I was preparing vegetables for the next day. We were called to the kitchen door and when we turned back to the table... All my vegetables had gone.  Carrots, leeks, onions and spuds. All the peelings were still on the table though. Ann and I searched the larders and the china store, but no vegetables I had to do it all again. Ann was crying with laughter as I was shouting to mid-air, "Thank you so very very much! A psychic onion is about all we need around here!"For months over the Autumn and winter, Ann and I continued to work there without any great upsets, although a couple of the Saturday staff left us on the Christmas Eve when all the oven doors were opening and closing and the lights kept flashing on and off. In the spring, though, things seemed to escalate a bit and all the new workers were having a lot of bother. The toilet light would go off and the flush would keep going and going. The best sighting I personally had was when I worked on the day shift one day. They'd got a wedding on and I was to help in the kitchen and wait on if needed in the dining room. We'd run out of Paprika and I got sent to buy some in the village. When I got back, I was told to go upstairs to the dining room. I'd still got the paprika in my hand and was climbing the stairs thinking what a glorious sunny day it was, with the sun coming through the big window and shining on the whole staircase. One of the barmaids called me when I was about halfway up and I turned back to answer her. While we were talking, a huge beautiful soft furred dog pushed past me on the staircase. "was I in your way there?", I asked it and Maureen and I laughed... That is, until it got to the foot of the stairs and disappeared, quite literally in front of our eyes. There was nowhere it could have gone. We were in bright sunlight. And, I had FELT it push me out of its way.

So there you go... Just one of the many sightings we had in the year or so I worked there.

My UFO Sighting:

MY UFO SIGHTING

By HRPI Member

Janice Hyde

My UFO experience began on 1982, i was coming home from shopping, it was about 7.30 on a clear night, something caught my eye an i looked up and there quite high up was a rectangle of really bright pulsating lights, not all the same one was bright orange one was purple, the other two were the most intense white. I got in and rushed to the back door, the four lights were still in the same part of the sky although they were pulsing slower. There was no sound; i watched for about an hour, i had to get my binoculars, hoping that they would still be there when i got back. I got back within a minute, and yes! there they were. I got a really good view; the object was long and very black apart from the lights, with no visible means of propulsion. It just hung in the sky. A moment later, the object just seemed to go with speed off to the north and disappeared. I sat down and started to write my account of the sighting and sent it off to Jenny Randles. Never expecting a reply to my surprise a reply, Jenny had checked with all airports in the area, and come up with no aircraft in the area, and had asked for someone to interview me. A letter arrived saying thank you and they were filing my interview under UNEXPLAINED
