Haunted Realm Paranormal Investigators

We arrived at the house on Badsley Moor Lane in Rotherham around 10pm on a Friday night in February 2007 having known about the history of the house before we even stepped foot in the property having contacted the Sheffield Star newspaper weeks before. We received old newspaper clippings from 1986 telling the horrific deaths of three young children and two adults who sadly died in a tragic blaze within the property.

Having hearing rumours about this rented property before and the stories that people who rented this house would not stay in the building for long and would move on after a few months, we received a phone call from the tenants at the time to see if we could come down and do an investigation due to the fact the family were seeing and hearing things they couldn’t explain.

We set up trigger objects in some of the upstairs bedrooms and left the digital recorder running in the bedroom where one of the tenants swore he saw a ghost of a young boy stood at the bottom of his bed before it vanished into the bedroom wall.

Investigation team leaders Kirsty and I, Jon split the family into two groups and we both began to investigate the upstairs and living room areas of the house.

As the investigation went on through the night without anything happening and our spirits ebbing away we noticed drawings that were beginning to appear on the wall leading up to the stairs what looked like stick figures of children and these we appearing in one of the bedrooms too (sadly we have lost the pictures of these to back this claim up)

As we were about to take a break one of the members of the family yelped out and held his nose in pain and as we looked we could see scratch marks on his nose which began to bleed and then the scratches began to appear on his neck and as I went into the living room I could feel my arm being scratched and I shouted out for everyone to come look but before they all got in I felt my neck had been scratched and on closer inspection everyone could clearly see these marks.

We asked for whoever was doing this to please stop and we all heard what sounded like laughter and we all agreed it sounded like a young boy who was making this noise.

We carried on the investigation without anything else happening and a few weeks later the family moved out.

The Manor Castle Public House Investigation 21st February 2008:

The Manor Castle Investigation

We began our investigation at the manor castle public house at 11:00pm on Thursday 21st February 2008. We separated into two teams, team one consisted of Jon, Chris and James and team two was I Kirsty, Susan, Janice, Hayley and the landlady of the manor castle.

Team one selected the cellar to investigate first, team two decided they would investigate the back lounge area of the pub (where activity as been witnessed before such as a pint glass moving of its own accord) Before we began the investigation of the back lounge area, Jon set up two coins as trigger objects in this area which have been known to move in previous investigations and we were ready to begin our investigation.

Team one settled down in the cellar and team two began their investigation in the lounge .We organised each area of the pub, so we had an hour each in all of the rooms. Both teams got settled down and let themselves adjust to their surroundings.

Each team began calling out asking for something to show itself or to make its presence known either by making a noise or by showing a spirit light. Team one started to see spirit lights darting across the wall of the cellar and low drumming noises were heard echoing around the cellar walls, Chris felt and heard breathing right next to him, so team one called for the drumming to get louder and as they finished calling out the drumming became louder and louder.

Team two heard three distinctive whistles coming through from the main bar area into the lounge, so Susan and I who were residing in the lounge area so we decided to move through into the lounge area closest to the main bar and as we did this the remaining members began to hear knocking on the door leading into the room from the toilet hallway. The Susan and I heard knocking on top of the bar and called out for the knocking to get louder and for it to happen again but nothing happened straight away so myself and Susan began chatting about the night so far, until our conversation was abruptly interrupted by the sound of two women arguing and raising their voices at each other.

Susan and I were completely shocked by what we had heard as it was perfectly clear what we had just experienced it was so clear that we had to check with the other members of team two that none of them were walking into that part of the lounge area that Susan and I were sitting or that any of them had raised their voices, but they all said that they hadn’t moved or spoken and that they had definitely not heard the two women arguing. We continued with our investigation even though things seemed to very quiet, until the three members in the back lounge area began feeling cold breezes drifting around the room especially where Hayley was sitting next to the door where the knocking was heard earlier in the investigation as they were experiencing the temperature drops.

Susan and I could hear the sound of what sounded like furniture being dragged across the floor above us, we later checked with the landlady and she told us that the ceiling we heard the noises coming from was a completely flat outside roof, so where the dragging noises were came from remained a mystery.

As we had been experiencing several forms of phenomena upstairs James from team two had seen a figure behind Chris in the cellar, which moved across the floor and turned left behind Jon and then disappeared out of sight. As the first of the nights vigils came to an end both teams reconvened in the main part of the bar.

Hayley describe what she had seen while in the back lounge, she claimed to have seen a small figure by the doorway while she was sat down in the back lounge. During the break Jon and I went to check on the trigger objects and to our surprise they had moved slightly out of the drawing circle.

Investigation two

We began the second part of the night’s investigations, team one were joined by Janice in the main bar and Susan and I and the landlady all convened in the cellar. The strange thing about the Manor Castle cellar is that it is quite large in size until you are down there in the dark and then it feels very claustrophobic and the walls draw in and then it feels very small.

We didn’t have to wait long for something to start occurring; we all began to hear what sounded like low drumming sounds and several taps and bangs, coming from the metal barrels. Susan began to call out asking for whatever spirit energy was around was around to do something more to us and as she did this a loud shush noise was heard by all four of us coming from near the entrance to the cellar.

Susan then went round to where the entrance to the cellar is and found no logical explanation for the noise we had all heard. So clearly we were all starting to feel extremely uncomfortable down in the cellar. In the main bar area team one were also experiencing different phenomena they had all heard tapping noises coming from one of the tables and when they asked for it to knock back to them the amount of knocks they knocked on the table, it would do so to order and several temperature drops were occurring around the room, they also heard knocking coming from the entrance to the bar. Jon and Chris became very light headed and both of them found it hard to breathe even though several minutes before they were both completely fine and had been fine all night. The cellar was certainly not failing to disappoint us so far and the Manor Castle Landlady and barmaid Hayley felt that they could no longer carry on investigating in the cellar as they were becoming increasingly uneasy so we decided to bring the investigation in the cellar to an end and as we were about to leave we heard a loud maoning noises from the very back of the cellar so we promptly left as we didn’t want to cause the Landlady and Hayley anymore uneasiness. We re-joined up with team one in the bar and we all had a well deserved break as the morning was dawning in.

Investigation Three

As it was now becoming rather late we decided we would shorten the last few investigations to thirty minutes each , so as team one had yet to investigate the lounge they would investigate this area next and team two would have the main bar area. The lounge didn’t fail to disappoint team one either, they also experienced the knocks and tapping noises on the door leading from the toilet hallway and all the members of team one also felt the temperature drops exactly where Hayley had experienced them and the other members of team two. The knockings also began again to order, team one asked if the spirit was a girl to tap once if it was a boy to tap twice, it knocked back twice so they had determined the spirit was a boy and now they wanted to find out his age so they called out to the boy that they would count up from one and when they reached the right age number the boy spirit should knock once to show that they had reached the exact age for the boy. The spirit knocked when they reached seven years old and the knockings became more continuous and the sound of the drumming continued throughout the bar area. Team two in the main bar could also hear the knocks and the drumming sounds, all of a sudden all of team two heard a loud growling sound coming from over by the men’s toilet door, so they decided to shout for team one to come through. When team one came through to the bar Hayley told us about the spirit that as been seen in the men’s toilets, it is an elderly gentleman who as been seen on many occasions by customers and staff. After we had heard about this we decided we would have to investigate this reported sighting. Kirsty, Susan, The Landlady and Hayley all volunteered to investigate the men’s toilets. They all entered the men’s toilets which were very small, they were all cramped in so tight, they were all chatting away to lighten the mood and all of a sudden they heard a very loud males voice groaning from behind Susan it was so loud that everyone became extremely frightened and exited the toilets. We all decided to have a short break, Susan and Kirsty decided they would go back into the toilets to see what would happen if there was just two of them, they decided to go back in with an open mind and not with expectations (as they wanted to look for a rational explanation for the noise they had heard before), but they must have been in the toilet for roughly only a few minutes when they heard the loud groaning noise again, so they decided it was best to leave the toilet as they felt very unsafe and uneasy. It was almost time for the end of the investigation, so we decided to hold a séance for the last experiment of the night but during the séance nothing occurred at all so we drew the night to a close and thanked the Landlady and staff for their hospitality and for allowing us to come and investigate The Manor Castle.

The Fat Cat Investigation 5th March 2008:

The Fat Cat Investigation

We arrived at the Fat Cat pub on Alma Street in Sheffield on the Wednesday the 5th of March 2008 around 10.50pm; we were greeted on the doorstep by a member of staff and we were shown up into the function room where we used this area to relax and store our equipment before the night’s vigils began.

Before the investigations began we had a small rest bite before the pub became empty from the drinkers downstairs giving us time to meet the rest of the staff who wanted to take part in the night’s vigils and to have a welcoming cup of coffee and a chat with the staff.

We split the members and staff into two groups, group one compiled of myself (Jon) Janice and two members of staff. Group two were Kirsty, Susan and Claire and two members of staff one of these (Hannah) would later become a full time member of the Haunted Realm Paranormal Investigators and would play a keen role within the group.

Group two started the night’s investigation down in the bar area where before long they all began to hear what sounded like knocking noises coming either on the bar or from behind the bar itself and also knocking noises where heard on one of the windows behind Hannah, but the weirdest event of the night was the sound of what only can be described as a horse and cart passing outside the pub and strangely on a cobbled road and not on a modern day road that was outside the pub and all the group heard this, but due to the fact the main door to the pub was locked everyone had to stand up on the bar seats to look out the window but nothing was there.

As the vigil continued the group began to see spirit lights above the bar and then they noticed a bar stool had moved on its own and was resting on one leg up against the seating that was around the bar. Also the group tried scrying within the bar area were upon two of the people trying this had apparently changed into an old woman and the other one into an old man which matched the two pictures hanging on the backroom wall in the other room which the group was unaware of at the time.

As the night continued group two moved down into the cellar and began to hear tapping noises coming from where the bottles were being stored and also heard a noise of what sounded like someone breathing out. They also saw what looked like a black shape crawling towards them in one of the side rooms leading of the cellar. Group one at this time where in the backroom and like other vigils where picking up very little apart from very faint tapping noises.

After a short break group two moved into the backroom of the pub where the pictures of the old woman and man were hanging on the wall, they began to hear knocking coming from where the bar was and also whistling could also be heard.

We decided that the night was coming to a close and group one where picking up very little so we all teamed up together to do a séance in the main bar area, apart from myself who was filming this everyone got themselves into a circle and Kirsty asked out loud if work house Mary was with us, who is said to haunt the public house but we got very little activity except for a strange noise from the kitchen area to which the staff were puzzled to what the noise could be.

And this brought the night to closure and an end to the investigation in The Fat Cat.

The Boardwalk Investigation 5th April 2008:

The Boardwalk Investigation

We arrived at the Boardwalk in Sheffield in the most diabolically weather conditions of the year so for , with driving snow in our faces we headed into the warmth of the Old Mucky Duck an old name given to what is now the leading music venue in Sheffield. We was greeted inside by the owners daughter Felicity who gave the group a walk round the old and intriguing building including area’s not normally seen by the general public, this included the old caretakers rooms where most of tonight’s activity would take place.

We split the members of HRPI and the staff of the Boardwalk into two groups; group one consisting of Kirsty the co-founder of the Haunted Realm Paranormal Investigators and the following paranormal investigators Susan, Hannah, and Dawn also included were Felicity and two other members of staff.

Group two consisted of myself (Jon) co-founder of the Haunted Realm Paranormal Investigators and the following paranormal investigators Mark and his son Paul and female investigator Janice and a member of the Boardwalk staff.

Before the vigils would begin Mark and Kirsty began to set up trigger objects in certain parts of the building this included three Chinese coins which where placed on plain white paper and then drawn around and a picture was taken to prove the exact precision the coins where placed. Also an Oujia board fridge magnet was placed on paper and then drawn around and like before a picture was taken on a digital camera to prove the object was perfectly placed before leaving them to begin the investigation.

Group one elected to take the old caretakers room first to investigate while group one set themselves the task of investigating the stage area so with forty five minutes in each room set a side we began the first of the nights vigils.

Mark, Paul and Janice and the member of staff and I all sat round on the stage, Mark began to say out loud “if anyone was with us from the spirit world, could you please show us a sign that you are here” after a while we all began to hear noises coming from the left hand side of the stage and also the temperature began to flux from fairly warm conditions to freezing cold and this would happen on severely occasions while we was in this section of the building, we also thought that we could see what looked like a mist which briefly appeared to one side of the main room where the general public would stand while watching any concerts that where being performed there.

Group two by this time were settled into their small surroundings in the back of the building which was once used by the caretaker of the property, the room consisted of two sofas, a old arm chair and two wicker chairs and a piano and a table in the middle of the room, the curtains were closed and the room began to get fairly dark once all the torches had been turned off, within minutes the women’s eyes adjusted to the darkness and they all began to notice spirit lights appearing on the ceiling then they began seeing them on the walls too and while Kirsty was glancing round the room she noticed what looked like a dark shadow that moved in the other room leading of the place where they were investigating it was only there for a few seconds but it made the group feel uncomfortable especially when tapping noises began to be heard in that room, so the group decided to investigate within that room which consisted of a few chairs a table and a huge free standing mirror.

Within five minutes Susan decided to go back into the other room to film on her own, she sat on one of the sofas and began to film the empty room and clearly when we played back the video you could hear the commentary and also a creaking noises coming from the wicker chairs like someone was trying to sit down or trying to make themselves comfortable in one of them, as she got up to move to a better location within the room to film you can see the footage as she swings and pans round on video and you can clearly see nothing has moved but while she was filming you can clearly hear the wicker chairs creaking to the left of Susan and you can hear her saying they are moving on film, but this wasn’t to be the most interesting part of vigil, but what happened next puzzled all the people who investigated with us that night and it still does to this day. Kirsty was stood with her back to where Susan was filming and turned round to see if she was alright and out of the corner of her eye she noticed that all the cushions on the sofa across from where Susan was filming had piled themselves on top of each other, she shouted to everyone to come and have a look, but unfortunately the next day when we played back the footage we didn’t capture the cushions moving, we tried to re-enact the movement in the caretakers room how the cushion might have been moved but without success we tried sitting down and getting up quick to see if the cushions might move but they didn’t we even thumped and slapped them but once again without success we couldn’t get them to move at all. Also while the vigil was continuing in the backroom the temperature began to drop in certain parts of the room. By this time the allotted time was up so we are reconvened in the main part of the Boardwalk where upon group one was given the information of what occurred within the back room, so some of us went back into the caretakers old room and to everyone’s surprise the cushions had moved again so we set up a video camera filming the sofa but unfortunately our luck wasn’t in that night and we never captured the movement of them moving.

After a short coffee break group two decided to investigate what they called the Stain glass room due to the fact the windows in that room looked like stained glass, while group one decided to investigate the backroom where all the activity was taking place, Mark Paul and Janice decided to sit on the sofa opposite the one where the movement of had been taking place and the member of staff who joined us sat down in an arm chair while I stood up to film, we began to take temperature readings using infrared thermometers and the room was at a constant level until Mark began to ask “if anyone is with us can you make the temperature drop” and in the view finder on the camera you can clearly see the red infrared beam of light double in size which was very strange and also it changed colour to white and then Mark asked “can you make the temperature drop” and on command the thermometer dial started to drop from 12 degrees all the way down to 8 degrees then Mark ask for the temperature to rise and on command it did back up to the normal room temperature.

Group two at this stage where getting a little fed up of nothing happening in the stained glass area until they began to hear footsteps and someone talking with the main part of the Boardwalk so Kirsty and Susan went to investigate to see if anyone from the other group where talking and walking about in the main area but on closer inspection of the darken expanse on the main bar area they couldn’t see or hear anyone within there, after that all group two had joined them on the stage to see what was happening then everyone heard footsteps apparently coming up a small set of stairs but no one was there. This was the same area where the owner of the Boardwalk had his own experience on the same steps, while talking to a singer before they went back on stage he felt someone grab him and it felt they were stopping him moving and this has also happened to many singers and groups who have played there.

By now the forty five minutes were over and group one walked back into the main bar area and this ended this part of the night’s vigils.

Kirsty and Janice and I decided not to have a coffee break but to have our own vigil back in the caretaker’s room, we turned of the lights and we began to see spirit lights and also we heard the wicker chairs making the same creaking noises as before, we also kept seeing a light the kept appearing on the ceiling but we couldn’t work out from where it was coming from.

As the night was coming to an end it was time to check out to see if the trigger objects had moved and to our amazement the Oujia fridge magnet had been moved not by a few centimetres but had been turned by a great distance also one of the three Chinese coins had moved too.

The last part of the night was taken up in the back room of the caretakers old apartment by doing a séance with all the people who attended on the night we saw the same spirit lights as before and the light upon the ceiling, we heard what sounded like water running in the kitchen area which was next door to where everyone was sat, it was elected that I would go check out the kitchen and to see if anyone had left a tap running, where upon entering the kitchen it was very noticeable that no taps had been left on, so we never found out where the sound of water was coming from. and this ended what was a fascinating night at the Boardwalk in Sheffield.

Dove & Rainbow Public House Investigation 23rd April 2008

The Dove and Rainbow Investigation

We arrived at the Dove and Rainbow on St Georges night the 23rd of April at around 9.15pm, we where shown around the downstairs area by Dawn who works at the Dove and Rainbow. She took us on a guided tour of the lower floor of the public house which consisted of a bottle storage area a cellar, an office and store rooms a kitchen a lift and a lower basement area that floods up to six inches a day due to the fact the area is riddled with underground tunnels leading down to the river Don.

We split the members into two groups of three, group one compiled of myself (Jon) Janice and Mark and group two Susan, Hannah and Claire

Before the investigation began we set up trigger objects in the cellar and left a digital recorder running in the lower basement area then we began our 30 minute vigils in each of the rooms, group one started off in the kitchen and before long we caught a light anomaly on video which could be seen clearly by the naked eye and then Mark and Janice both could hear what sounded like a bell ringing but very faintly then Mark began to pick up the presence of a girl called Charlotte aged roughly about six years old she was a timid and a shy little girl according to Mark.

As the vigil carried on in the kitchen, group two where down in the basement, after getting use to there dark surroundings and getting there barings the vigil began, the women struggling with the strong damp odious smell of the basement began to hear faint tapping noises and could see small light anomalies appearing on the view finder of the video camera, but the smell of the damp got better of the team and they left after about 15 minutes.

After a short coffee break group one went into the cellar, we noticed that the trigger objects had not moved and with permission we turned of the cooling fans and lights, after awhile we got used to the sound of the pumps working and other noises so we dismissed them as nothing paranormal and we carried on with our vigil in there after about 29 minutes of our allotted 30minutes in there of nothing happening at all we all heard clearly a sighing groaning noise but we couldn’t work out in which direction it was coming from.

Group two went in the kitchen and managed to capture a few strange lights on camcorder just like group one did earlier in the night, as the vigil continued the temperature began to drop and Hannah and Claire began to notice the sudden decrease in coldness, the oddest occurrences of the vigil in there was when Susan had taken her fresh hot cup of coffee from the bottle storage area into the kitchen where apon it went cold instantly which baffled everyone in there.

While we chatted and drank more coffee in our break within vigils in the bottle storage area myself and Hannah both heard what sounded like a groaning or moaning noise coming from behind us near the door way leading up to the bar area so we both went to investigate to see if anyone was either on the corridor leading up to the stairs or on the stairs its self, we couldn’t hear or see anyone and we even asked a member of staff if anyone had been down stairs in the last few minutes but we was told no one had left the bar area due to the pub was getting busy.

As we reconvened into the next part of the night’s vigils my self a Mark ventured down into the basement area while all the women teamed up to investigate the lift area, but they found this to be a waste of time and moved down to the bottle storage area where events would turn interesting. As the night continued I noticed a bright light on Mark but I couldn’t work out from what direction it was coming from and out of the corner of my eye I noticed someone walking behind the basement door and to our surprise the door opened so I contacted the other group using the walkie talkies to ask them if anyone had just walked past the door and opened it, but no one had as they where all in the bottle storage area at that time.

Janice, Hannah, Claire and Susan began their final vigil and this would prove to be the most interesting of the Dove and Rainbows vigils that night, having spent time in the bottle storage area before, the women were used to the noises that the pumps in the cellar made so any unusual noises they might hear would be unfamiliar to them so when they began to hear faint noises that gradually became very distinctive they knew it was nothing the women had heard before and these noises seemed to emanating behind Hannah.

As they sat around the edge on the room a very loud male sounding groan could be heard from the very centre of the room which made them all jump and scream which turned into laughter which Mark and I heard in the basement. After the door incident in the basement we heard what sounded like footsteps and movement in one corner and strangely it seemed to be darker in that area then any other part of the room. We also heard faint tapping noises that could be heard on the wall between both of us.

The time was getting close for the investigation to come to an end we headed upstairs and we was greeted by Jason the owner of the Dove and Rainbow and his lovely dog Emma who on occasions had to be carried into the property due to the fact she seemed scared of the building. While we was all chatting about what had happened downstairs Mark asked the bar staff if they have a ghost in the bar area who wore black clothing this gave Dawn Goosebumps as she told us about the ghost of John who is seen on a regular basis, so much the regular drinkers in there try to buy him a drink. According to history a man named John was murded and his body thrown in the river Don where it was washed up in the tunnels that lead under boots the chemist and the Dove and Rainbow. The only strange event that took place in our final vigil was a hand drier turned on while Susan was in the ladies toilets and this ended what was a fascinating night at the Dove and Rainbow.

Conisbrough Castle Investigation 24th May 2008

Conisbrough Castle Investigation

The Bedroom of The Keep

We all stayed in one big group in the bedroom area of the Keep, we all took our places scattered around the room. It wasn’t long before we started hearing strange noises that sounded like footsteps coming from the roof area of the castle which were echoing down the stairs leading to the roof. Upon inspection the footsteps seem to stop and all we could hear was the sound of the flag flying in the wind, these footsteps kept starting and stopping and a few of the team members assumed that the footsteps were just the sound of the flag. HRPI co-founder Jon went to the roof area as the footsteps were happening again and when he had got there the footsteps stopped and so did the sound of the flag in the room below him where we were, we could hear nothing from the roof at all which we heard clearly most of the night and Jon himself also commented that the flag didn’t seem to be moving around that much and was not making much noise at all so what had the noise been that we had been hearing?. We all composed ourselves and returned to our places after a while I started to pick up on the presence of a man in the room who I felt had religion connected to him and as he became clearer to me I realised he was a monk but as soon as he had come he went and I saw or felt nothing more of him throughout the night. Time passed on and everything seemed to have gone quiet until I started to feel un-easy so I stood up and decided to go and sit next to Jon for a bit of comforting and as I stood up I felt something push me from the right hand side not with a very forceful push but strong enough for me to spin round I was completely shocked and stunned by what had just happened. The investigation in the bedroom was drawing near to the close so we decided to call out for something to happen one last time and as we did this I saw a white lady like figure gliding up the stairs towards the roof so I gave chase after it after yelling out for everyone to follow me and explaining what I had just saw, as I reached the bottom of the stairs I could hear very loud heavy footsteps bounding down the stairs towards me they sounded like heavy high heeled footsteps and very menacing I took this as a warning to back off and to be honest it really frightened me as I have never experienced footsteps that loud or that menacing and to have them bounding down the stairs towards me and knowing that no-one was there it was un-nerving. That brought the Investigation to a close in the bedroom.

After the Investigation in the bedroom area HRPI Co-founder Jon took our team and Joined HRPI member Dave’s team in the Great Hall of the Keep, I Myself Kirsty joined HRPI member Michelle for an Investigation in The Lodge -The tea rooms along with a member of staff.

Myself Kirsty, Michelle and the member of staff entered the lodge-tea rooms and we decided that Michelle would investigate the tea room area and that myself and member of staff would investigate the upstairs rooms which consisted of a staff room, a filing area and an office, we decided we would sit in the staff room area as I was told that many people had experienced some sort of phenomena there but I wasn’t told what. We sat down and started chatting about HRPI in general and then the member of staff asked me if I picked up on anything in the lodge and all I said was I can see a little dog sitting on the landing area and I felt that this dog had been witnessed many times before and as I said this she was totally shocked and said I am so happy you picked up on the dog as many people have reported seeing a dog in here. We decided we would start calling out for any spirits in the lodge to make themselves known and as we did this the handle on the door leading into the staff room started moving up and down of it’s own accord and kept doing it for several minutes, we both stood up and went to check that no-one was on the landing or in any of the other rooms but no-one was there. We sat back down and the member of staff told me how the door that the staff room door handle had been seen to move before and the door itself had been seen to open on its own and as she did this the door handle started to move again so I asked if that was a spirit making the handle move to movie it faster and as soon as I said it the door moved up and down in such a fast motion. At this point Michelle called up from downstairs for us to go down and join her in the tea rooms as she was experiencing phenomena in there. When we arrived in the tea rooms Michelle began to tell us how she had become very frightened instantly and how she was hearing strange noises in the room which sounded like bells ringing as she was telling us of her account all of a sudden the motion detector that Michelle had set up started to chime erratically at different time sometimes it would chime six times others just one or two and it would stop and start again with no logical explanation at this point myself and the staff member decided to return to the upstairs rooms we went back into the staff room and the door handle continued to move up and down for a while but then it suddenly stopped so we decided to go into the filing room, as we were about to enter the room the door from the staff room opened on it’s own even though it was definitely closed by the member of staff. Upon entering the filing room I picked up on the spirit of a little boy that had died in the room and I was told I was correct by the staff member and she went on to tell me how he had been seen in this room and throughout the lodge I also asked her if staff members had ever noticed people looking out of the lodge windows when no-one was in there and she couldn’t confirm this but later on that evening I got confirmation of this from another staff member. At this point we decided to have a well earned break and meet up with the others in the visitors centre.

Later on that evening I re-joined up with Jon and we went into the tea room-the lodge with the member of staff but nothing occurred in any of the upstairs rooms until we got called down to all re-join back up in the visitors centre as the fire alarms were going off with no explanation for it happening and as we were heading downstairs the door to the staff room opened on it’s own myself Kirsty, Jon and the staff member all witnessed this happening.

Outside Near The Keep

We all sat near the keep and called out but we had no success very windy and cold

Middle Floor of The Keep

We all took our places and sat in the room lights turned out after 10 mins I saw a light near the downward stair case also 3 of our guests started to feel a draft over there shoulders the Susan who was sat in the alcove noticed a shadow of a hooded figure I also picked up on a French monk also could smell garlic and as soon as it came the smell went, I could sense the presence of a man near the downward staircase Susan moved over and said she could here someone down stairs so I move towards her after a further 10 mins I to heard someone moving around down stairs Susan and the curator both went down to investigate but no one was found we then all sat around the table and one of the guest felt a cold draft around her right side and one of her colleagues had a cold back.During this time I saw some light abnormalities and both Susan and Claire saw movement behind the guests. I also felt a man say that it is all false the doors and tables and chairs when asked the curator he said there only 15 yrs old quite new but made to look old,

We all called out several times for some thing to bang or make a noise but got no response

Bedroom of The Keep

As we all moved in the room I felt an unease and the presence of a woman she was not happy but not at us, also Susan kept hearing a woman’s voice saying lies this happened for a while about 15 mins, I was too picking up that she was not happy at what they had done to the room as it was not a bedroom we all sat down around the room and called out we saw quite a few orbs near the bed and the guests took photo’s and got results in the pictures Our battery on the camcorder died at this point also one of our guests was having problems with her camara. Paul came in the room to see if we were all ok and to join in whilst he was here we heard whistling and foot steps upstairs the whistling I think was caused by the wind from the turrets but when outside we never heard it. I called out for the sprits to show us a sign and felt the presence of a dog Irish wolf hound type standing near one of the guests as this happened they said they felt cold nut the other 2 who were sat right next felt ok Susan moved to sit near the front of the bed we called out that if the spirit is unhappy with the way the room was set up please show us a sign, I called this several times then we heard two bangs come from top of the bed and the floor to Susan’s left it was a noise like a stone falling we all checked the floor and found a screw next to the bed it was a type that electricians use for safety with an Alan key top after the initial shock we asked if they could do it again may be move the bed or throw some wood near the bed and make a noise but we had no luck yet

The tea Rooms

We had two more guests join our group they had brought a table with them and put a glass on it the 5 of them then started to ask if there is anyone there after about 5 mins the glass started to move slightly they carried on for a further 5 mins then decided to do a table tipping exercise they had a slight movement then we split up into 2 groups they moved upstairs we stayed down whilst down there I felt the temperature drop and the presence of a old lady from the 1930’s type person just passing through it whilst looking out the windows we saw a shadow of a grey man near the wall of the castle just for a moment

Second Visit To The Bedroom of The Keep

We all moved into the room were we asked the lady to give us a sign I felt her still there we waited for the curator to come and turn the fire exit lights out then heard a winding noise for about 2 mins then a loud bang coming from the roof at this time we were asked to leave due to the alarms being set off so I said good bye and we went to the meeting point. The main point I have to say is that just before we left last time I asked for a sign make a bang and move something she sure did I think she set of the alarms which opened the wooden hatch and made a loud bang what we asked for

After all I feel that the night was very good and would love to do it again but stay a bit longer to get more out the place as it’s full of activity

Part 1 Outside near the keep

We split into 3 groups of 2

Group 1 - Michelle & Guest

Group 2 - 2x Guests

Group 3 - David & Guest

We split into the groups to cover the large outside area, G1 (group 1) sat in the 2nd alcove, G2 sat in the 3rd and largest alcove with fencing, G3 closest to the keep and inside the wall.

G1 - had experienced large temperature variances raising form 11.7c to 15.8c while outside and only in response to questions asked. They also noted large levels of sound interference on the Environmental metre which were in-audible.

G2 – Witnessed a white light in the tree tops outside the castle G1 also witnessed this.

G3 – Guest said that they felt the presence of a small boy around 7 dressed in a silver coat and brown half sleeve top underneath, who the guest felt was of the period that the castle was in active use and that the child was involved with kitchen work

Michelle was left on her own during the team swap over during this time Michelle heard the sound of bars being rattled (as in jail bars being rattled) coming from alcove 1.

The Great Hall of the keep

We joined Jon’s group during this vigil, after the lights were turned off number of people called for any sprits to show themselves or respond in anyway. After around 10 minutes 3 guests using the EMF metre reported a sudden spike up to 30 Milligauss (from 0). Janice reported a cold feeling around her feet this was correlated by a guest’s environmental metre which recorded a room temperature of 17.3c dropping to 12c. A few minutes later a guest (from G3) reported a cold spot at there waist this was again correlated by the metre. The same guest reported the presence of the child from the grounds, however this only lasted a few moments. Two guests reported a heavy feeling on top of there heads which happened at the same time and in the same area that the child presence was felt.

The Bedroom Of The Keep

After the group explored the main room and adjoining rooms we ventured to the roof.

After a short time we descended to the main bedroom to conduct our investigation, the lights were turned out and Jon began to call out, after a short time footsteps were heard coming down the stone steps from the roof. To which David and Jon went to investigate but nothing was found.

At this point a communication from Michelle and Kirsty was received advising that the Tea Room was very active. Jon and I sent the group members to investigate.

The Tea Rooms

Michelle set up the test consisting of marbles on a tray of talc monitored by a camcorder secured by a motion sensor. The motion sensor chimed erratically for no explainable reason for several minutes. The marbles were not moved.

The camcorder did record the sound, however when the test was set there was an image shown on the screen but it did not record any images just a blank screen.

First Report By Jonathan Slater

The Dove and Rainbow never fails to let us down, so we were very pleased that we was asked back to investigate the place, so on Wednesday the 4th of June around 9pm we set foot back into one of Sheffield’s friendliest real ale pubs and once again we received a more then friendly welcome by the staff.

Like the last investigation there in April we started the night by showing the members who hadn’t been there before around and gave them a tour of the places were the nights vigils would take place, we also like before set up trigger objects in the kitchen and bottle storage area’s before splitting the members of HRPI into two groups of three.

Group one was compiled of co-founders myself (Jon) and Kirsty and HRPI member Dawn, group two was headed by team leader Mark and HRPIs Janice and our new member Sean, we all agreed forty minutes would be enough to investigate each of the rooms so group one started of the nights vigils in the bottle storage area and group two would investigate the kitchen.

Kirsty, Dawn and I set up vigil for the next forty minutes in the storage bottle area and the small office we where later joined by two keen wanna be investigators from the general public who heard we was there and asked by a member of staff if they would be welcome to take part in our investigations. This time the bottle storage seemed to less active then before we only picked up a presence of someone who seemed to have a keen interest in one of the members of the public.

Kirsty and Dawn thought they heard what sounded like a cat meowing and they also saw spirit lights in the small office that is connected to the bottle storage area.

After forty minutes we moved into the kitchen area and before long a knocking noise could be heard on the closed kitchen door and this was heard by all of us who where in there and Kirsty being closer to the door decided to open it to see if anyone was there from the other group or a member of staff who might have wanted access to the kitchen, but when she opened the door no one was in the vicinity of the corridor or the bottle storage area and group two were near the lift and some distance from where we where.

We carried on investigating the kitchen and not before long we heard the knocking again on the kitchen door so I decided to sit outside on the corridor to keep an eye on what was happening and to see if someone was knocking it as they went past it. I waited outside and kept an eye on the door while the others kept a vigil in the kitchen.

Kirsty was picking up a presence of a man with cuts on his face and later on that night we found out that new HRPI member Sean also picked up on the same man in the kitchen area and neither of them discussed this while we had breaks so this was interesting information.

When we left the kitchen area to have a break we were informed that HRPI member Janice had been scratched on her arm while she was investigating the lift area, after taking a few pictures of her arm we decided that the lift area seemed to be the most active area in the Dove and Rainbow that night so investigators Kirsty, Dawn Janice, Mark and I set up vigil in there and while I was entering that area I heard tapping noises on boxes piled up against the wall and when I told the others to come have a look it stopped.

Kirsty and Mark felt uneasy in that area and soon picked up on two presences one good and one negative. One was a man who was crushed to death maybe during the war and his body was just left there. We heard footsteps and a few tapping noises while we was there and we also heard noises on the corridor but no one was there.

After all the customers had left from the upstairs bar area HRPI and the remaining staff of the Dove and Rainbow decided to hold a vigil in there, in an experiment using the EMF meter, Mark asked for the equipment to increase in sound and to order it did and then on request of mark saying can you please slow this down it did. Behind the bar people were seeing a black shape moving and also sprit lights were also seen and Kirsty and Mark felt that the negative energy was coming up from downstairs and was hanging around the steps leading down to the cellar and officers and this made them feel uneasy.

The investigation came to an end and we thanked the members of staff for another wonderful night and their fantastic hospitality.

Second Report By Mark Phillips

This is my second investigation of the dove & rainbow, It is a great place and is full of different phenomena

Kitchen

We split into 2 groups I was with Jan, Sean and myself

We sat in the kitchen and as soon as we walked in I immediately picked up on a small girl she was in the corner crouched down near the lift very scared of the man we called out for a noise but did not have any luck then after about 10 mins both Sean and myself felt the presence of a man enter the room this made the small girl very frightened the man was wearing a long coat scruffy in manner and a cut on his face also came across as having a hat or a cloak on covering his head when he entered the room it went darker also the door banged several times we called out again but still no response after a while both the girl and man spirit left we left after being in there for 45 mins

Bottle Cellar

we sat around in the cellar and asked for any spirit person to make a noise after about 10 mins we heard a bang come from behind us we asked for this again but no luck we left this area after about 35 mins

Bottom Of the stairs

We started of at the bottom of the stairs near the lift area to the back of us was a cupboard this is opposite the lift both Jan and myself felt a presence of a man buried below us, he is not to happy as he unhappy about not being found just covered over during the ww2 bombing also in the cupboard the presence of an entity was coming forward this is quite an uneasy feeling, after about 20 mins Sean left us and the other group joined in .

We asked them how they were feeling and dawn Kirsty both said they don’t like the cupboard also Kristy said she felt the presence of a man buried under the stairs too. We all asked for something to happen and the cardboard boxes moved and rattled after about 10 mins ;used the emf meter this then went faster when asked and slower as well this is very strange as it should not alter. We called out for more to happen then Jan was scratched on the arm

We carried on to have noises happen for about 40 mins also everyone said they did not feel at ease in this area I felt that someone was sat at the bottom of the stairs watching us

The Bar

We all went up into the bar, were we are joined in by 3 members of staff I felt the presence of a man stood in the corner of the bar area also the man from down below in the cellar was near the entrance to the bar I feel he pops in and out touching the staff and rattling the glasses for fun. Whilst in the bar I gave my meter for one of the bar staff to look after he pushed the button in and we asked for a sign after about 2-3mins the machine started to make a noise going faster when we asked it also slowing down between questions this was very interesting Whilst in the bar a spirit of a woman came and asked me to ask about a barmaid who used to work there called 3 yrs ago ish Carla pick unsure of the surname but wanted to let the owner know this asked the barmaid she said she would be in touch

Conclusion

Dove & rainbow is a fantastic place haunted with plenty of spirits both friendly and not so especially the one near the lift

All in all would like to thank Jason for being so kind in letting us investigate this public house

Private House Investigation, Sheffield 22nd June 2008:

Private House Investigation

First Report By Mark Phillips

Jon, Kirsty, Mark, Jan And both house occupants

This is a mid terrace property which is in the middle of being renovated, on entering the property I immediately felt the presence of a girl about 6-7 yrs old who is of mischievous nature, also felt a dark presence at the bottom of the stairs Whilst setting up I was in the kitchen area and felt the presence of someone watching me from outside he is linked to this property but unsure how and why yet hopefully more will follow

Walk around

I did a walk around with jon whilst walking around upstairs felt the girl again quite strong watching us she was around in the bedroom with the balcony,

When I turned to head back jon saw a shadow go past behind me we then went in the front bedroom whilst in there we heard banging in the back bedroom

Front Bedroom

I was joined by both Jan and bob the house owner in this room we called out for any spirit person to come forward and make them self known we did this for about 10-15 mins the only thing that happened was noises come from the hall way like a banging sound also when we looked there was no one there

Balcony Bedroom

Whilst in this room there is a very heavy atmosphere under the balcony after about 5 mins in this room I felt the presence of the girl she had come around and is of a cheeky girl enjoys playing around, I set the digital temp gauge on the floor it read 17.2c I asked bob to choose a temp he would like it to go down to he said 10c I then asked her to reduce the temp she started off by bringing it down to 14.1c then I felt she was playing with us also bob felt this too as the temp dropped down to 12.4c then we moved to 11.2c this took about 10 mins in total, I felt she was getting bored with this and was fooling around as the temp would go up 2 degrees then drop back to 11c this was as bob said she was putting her foot in and out of the gauge this happened for a further 15 mins then I asked her to move it back the gauge then moved back up to 16.8c which is near what we started the room then felt flat as I think she had left us, we called out for a further 20 mins but nothing happened

Front Bedroom

Whilst in this room I felt the presence of a baby and could smell baby powder whilst in this room also felt that the man I felt earlier was linked to this child he was coming through quite well now got a name of Arthur or arti and a surname like allot he was killed in a railway crash but not in deepcar on a day out some where else he was related to the child as either uncle of grandfather and the baby died of a cold/bronchitis type of illness

Living Room

Whilst in this room I used a pendulum and asked any spirit person here to make it move after about 5 mins it started to move in a anti-clockwise motion this a sign of a bad spirit after about 10 mins bob held the pendulum and it started to move for him anti-clockwise as well during this Jan brought her’s up to me and hers joined in moving anti-clockwise as well during this I felt the presence of a man visiting us from next door he was the ladies husband

We then moved towards the kitchen area near the stairs and sat I tried the pendulum again but nothing happened. I tried using the emf meter asking it to contact us by making it go faster after about 5 mins of bob holding this the meter started to make a noise , I asked it to go faster if it wanted to talk to us and it did, I then asked who it wanted to talk to going round the group and it started to move when it came to ann.’s name she then called out to ask if it was a friend or relative but we did not get any response and it then stopped moving at all. We called out again and had some banging noises coming but this could have come from the next doors house as often I heard a dog bark or a light switch on. We were then joined by the ladies and we did a séance nothing much happened here but we did feel a cold breeze come around us but apart from that nothing much

Conclusion

I feel this is a great place to investigate as there are several spirit haunting the house and plenty of activity going on there. Our hosts Bob and Anne. were fantastic could not asked for a more friendly couple.

Group Two – Co-founders Kirsty, Jon and ex owner of the property and now HRPI member Anne

Walk Around

Upstairs Kirsty felt the presence of a little girl called “Charlotte” and an oldish man, she also heard a baby crying in the smallest of the bedrooms, she felt was related to the man and this was also confirmed by HRPI member Janice who picked up on the very same thing.

Living Room and Kitchen

Kirsty and Anne felt this area had a depressive atmosphere to it and Anne explained that when she lived at the property after moving in she suffered from depression and she always felt uncomfortable being downstairs on her own and she would rather be upstairs all night then being down there on her own.

Kirsty felt the presence of a man who didn’t like the way the house was being redeveloped and he was making the atmosphere drop into a depressing feeling, so much that it made Kirsty cry as he was shouting out to her “this is my house, its mine, and its mine”

Kirsty also thought someone was coming downstairs and she saw an arm appear at the doorway.

We all heard severely tapping noises and the plastic covering that was protecting the newly fitted kitchen rose like someone had just walked passed it.

Balcony Bedroom

We all felt this area had a heavy atmosphere to it and Kirsty sensed that the oldish man she picked up on earlier would walk between this bedroom and down the corridor, but he wasn’t with us while we was in there.

Kirsty asked out for any spirits to come forward and from the little bedroom we heard a noise coming from that room on to the corridor and it seemed someone was coming towards us, the noise got louder and then it stopped right in front of us and then vanished.

Small Back Bedroom

All three of us all saw a black shape, like a shadow pass the doorway.

Front Bedroom

We all felt this had a friendly atmosphere and nothing happened while we was in there.

Conclusions

(Kirsty) I do believe that some paranormal phenomena is taking place in this house and it does warrant a follow up investigation.

(Jon) I feel the layout of this property plays a part in whatever is taking place in this house and I feel leaving a camcorder running all night while the property is empty would make for interesting viewing and I feel a follow up investigation is called for.

Private House Re-Visted

Saturday 6th September 2008

Investigation

On the initial walkabout around the property, Sandra picked up on a child crying in the same bedroom, Kirsty, Mark and Janice picked upon in the last investigation.

We all heard various tapping and banging noises in our three hour vigil, we also heard a voice saying “No” when Faye called out if anyone was there. We also heard footsteps coming down the wooden stairs in the balcony room when, Jon called out “Arrivederci” in response to the EVP’S we caught in our last investigation. Also in the Balcony room a trigger object had moved slightly.

In the living room/kitchen area’s all the team heard a very loud “sigh” and Sandra and Faye both saw a dark shadow move across the living room wall. Faye began to feel uneasy in the living room and then Sandra felt like her throat was being tightened like someone was putting pressure on it.

(Jon) Co-Founders Final Thought

Maybe it’s the strange layout of the upstairs that brings an uneasy atmosphere to the property, but as the skeptic member of the group I have no concrete evidence to back up other members claim’s that this property is haunted and therefore I close the case on this house.

(Kirsty) Co-Founders Final Thought

This location made such a big effect on me emotionally and spiritually. The house itself is filled with depressing thoughts and feelings, I also believe the layout of this house is one of it’s downfalls as it makes it feel claustrophobic. I believe that there is some paranormal activity occurring at this location and HRPI will be returning in the very near future to help the spirits that reside as this house to move on.

Report 2 By Faye

We arrived at the house at around 8:00pm, after meeting, Bob and Anne, our wonderful hosts, Jon took Sandra and I on the walk round of the property whilst we walked round upstairs, Sandra picked up on the spirit of a crying baby, which was confirmed later on in the night. There was a strange feeling to the upstairs of the property, which I think is due to the renovation being carried out, i.e. doorways where there shouldn’t be

Vigil One The Cellar

For the first investigation we went down to the cellar, we called out for a while down there, but we decided it wasn’t the ideal place to investigate due to the fact that we were getting outside noise from the street above. Although we were getting tapping noises in response to our questions, we could not rule out that it was from outside.

Vigil Two Upstairs

We set up a trigger object on the balcony, in the far bedroom and made sure no one went up to the balcony, when we later checked the trigger object had moved. During the investigation upstairs we had quite a few tapping noises and what can only be described as a clicking sound in response to our questions. I asked out at one point and all three of us heard an instant reply which was definitely the word NO, this left me feeling uneasy and we can not explain where it came from.

Vigil Three The Downstairs Lounge and Dining Area

This was a very depressive area of the house and we all heard a loud sigh coming from the kitchen when no one was in there. I felt as if somebody was always behind me in this area and that hey didn’t want me there, as well as seeing shadows moving across the back wall, I saw the curtains moving we checked the windows and there was no breeze coming in from them, they were brand new double glazed windows. I didn’t like investigating this area and was glad when we finished up.

Conclusion

All in all I felt the investigation went well and we got some good responses to our calling out and I’ll definitely look forward to returning there to help move on the troubled spirits.

The Elsecar Steam Railway, Barnsley 25th June 2008:

The Elsecar Steam Railway Investigation

HRPI Team

Jon, Jan, Sean, Mark, Hannah, Dawn And lauren

On our first tour around the site I would say its very open site and quite a large place split into 3 areas

Area 1 the platform, Area 2 the work shed, Area 3 behind the platform.

On our first walk around I felt the presence of a woman dressed in a Victorian dress with a hat and bow this was on the platform I felt she was nothing to do with the place but to do with a train which was on the site, we then moved into the workshop could feel the presence of a man here but unsure at the moment On the lines felt people crossing across them we then move around the back this part feels wrong this was a place were they stored equipment and on a closer look could see man made tunnels in the side of the hill but felt wrong not a train station but more of a yard, mine or foundry.

We split up into 2 groups in my group were Jon, Jan, Lauren and myself, the other group were Sean, Hannah and Dawn

The Workshop

We started of in the workshop first of all, upon entering this part of the site there was a strong smell of diesel, it also felt quite oppressive as if they did not want us there we all took our places and tried some calling out after about 5 mins we were getting a response of the odd banging then we saw a light flash into the roof of the building we asked for it to be done again and within 2 mins another flash happened with that Jon then went outside the main doors to see if any one could have used a torch to cause it and then another flash happened when he returned he said that there was no one outside and saw nothing that could have caused it, we then used a digital temp recorder and ask it to lower the temp after about 5 mins the temp dropped down from 14c to 11.2c then asked it to raise the temp it then moved up to 13c but stopped after about 5 more mins this then went back to 12.6 and stayed at that temp for the rest of the investigation here in the workshop. I used the EMF meter this was reading nothing at the moment but Jan said there was something near her right shoulder and when I place the meter near her it moved up 2 degrees

We all sat down and called out for something to happen whilst waiting I saw a shadow move across the tracks down near the bridge Jon radioed the others to ask if anyone had moved but they said no then Jon saw the same shadow and asked again the then went out to check but no one was there after about 5 mins Lauren said she saw the shadow .

We stayed for another 10 mins I felt the presence of a man who had died in a fire accident on one of the steam trains he was about 40ish and of small build wearing a blue overalls also felt that the woman was linked to the train here what I felt earlier on

Behind The Station

We moved around to the back of the area were we came across the tunnels and I heard a noise up front of me this was heard by Jon , Jan and Lauren not sure as it could have been a metallic object which we kicked by accident The area we were in just felt wrong as if there should have been a railway track there, also some mine or foundry work done here

The Station

This is a very interesting place it should not be here this feels as if it should have not been a station and the station should have been some where else also whilst sitting on the bench felt children on top of the foot bridge looking down at us.

After about 5 mins of calling out with nothing much happening I used my pendulum this did not move at first then just as it started to rain it moved anti clockwise this just kept moving faster and faster just as the rain kept coming down then it slowed down to a stop this happened for about 10 mins both stopped together the rain and the pendulum strange but true !!. We then lit a candle and called out there was some creaking sounds but this could have been caused by the rain on the wooden roof (wood shrinking/expanding with the rain)

After about 15-20 mins I kept feeling that we were being watched by something from inside the carriages I then asked everyone to take photo’s of the carriages as I felt we would pick up some interesting photo’s

We called out for a further 20 mins hearing the odd noise but nothing to order

Conclusion

This is a very good site with all different forms of activity, will look forward to investigating again as there is so much to do overall we had a great time and would like to thank the people who own the site for there kindness in letting us investigate it

Elescar Train Carriages

The Bar Carriage

Both I and Jan noticed that a horse shoe on the carriage wall was rocking side to side and when we asked for it to slow down it did and when we radioed Mark from the other group if anyone two carriages down was moving about, we was informed that they were all sitting perfectly still perfectually still.

Down the walkway of the middle carriage we both thought we saw what looked like a shape of a person who was clearly outlined and seemed to be looking in our direction, but when we shone a torch down there, it seemed to vanish from sight.

The Strangest incident in the bar carriage had to be when we both saw the two way radio hovering for a few seconds after it fell of the chair between me and Jan and as a sceptic I can’t think of an irrational answer to how this happened.

Both of us heard tapping noises coming from behind the bar and we both felt a cold breeze that seemed to pass the both of us.

Carriage One

Jan and I both felt this carriage seemed less atmospheric then the other one, until we heard the springs in one of the seats move like someone had either stood up or sat down in of the seats to the left of us.

Janice felt a presence of a woman near her and she began to have trouble breathing for awhile until she asked this person to back away and then she felt fine.

We also heard footsteps coming towards us down the carriage and we both heard various tapping and banging noises while we was sat in there.

Carriage One Full Team Investigation

We was joined by Mark, Anne and Bob, were we began to do an experiment using the EMF meter and we began to ask questions if anyone was with us could they make the meter increase in sound.

We began to pick up a few people, but the most intriguing was a man called George who two nights before Kirsty began to have visions off and she drew what he looked like in a book she keeps and she described what he looked like. Unfortunately she was unable the investigation, but while we was doing this experiment she phoned us to see how we was getting on, so I put her on loud speaker and she asked for George to come forward and to her voice the EMF meter went off the scale.

Later on we heard a loud banging which seemed to be something metal being hit or dropped.

The Platform Investigation

Myself Jan and Mark all sat on the platform seats but nothing much really occurred except for a small banging noise from one of the carriages.

Conclusion

As a sceptic I found the whole experience very enjoyable and I know Janice would back that statement up 100%. I can’t explain about the two way radio and how it seemed to hover and how the EMF meter went of the scale when Kirsty asked George to come forward.

This is our second investigation of the train museum, unfortunately Kirsty could not come but she said she has had some dreams of the place before hand also in them she came across a man called George this is the man we picked up on last time she has drawn a picture which is just like him.

Both Jan and myself did not tell her anything of this man.

The Carriages

When I entered the carriages I felt a presence overwhelm me, he was a man dressed like a station master but with no hat, I then moved down the carriages whilst in there bob and Ann moved down towards the end of the carriages I followed them and left both Jon and Jan in the front carriage when I caught up with bob and Ann they were at the end carriage where there is a bar whilst in here I noticed that there were horse brasses on a plaque on the wall and they were swaying side by side I started to film this and then they stopped. I stopped filming and they started to rock again this was quite strange both bob and Ann saw this so we stopped it still and tried to recreate this motion all we managed to do was to rock it back and forth not side ways like it was doing I asked any spirit person to do it again but no movement, we then moved back to Jon and Jan and decided to split into to groups we decided to do the end part near the bar area first. As we entered the area bob was picking up on a man sat in the braking area this is a small room near the bar area. We all sat in the room and I called out for any spirit person here to make himself known to us whilst we sat here the horse brasses started to move again I then tried my pendulum this did not move until the rain started then as the rain stopped it stopped strange I called out several times but nothing happened whilst in this room I noticed that something moved down the corridor it was a dark shadow I felt that this was a boy who was watching us from a distance, every time I tried to film the horse brasses move they stopped, I called out again but it is raining very hard we heard the odd banging noise but this could have been caused by the rain whilst in there we felt that we were being watched through the windows behind me, also bob felt quite drained of his energy he was also picking up the spirit of a lady wearing Victorian dress, after about 1hr we swapped places with Jon and Jan

We all sat in the middle of the carriage and I called out after about 5 mins we were getting a banging noise coming from the front end of the carriages bob said he felt that there was a man doing a crossword, he also felt that there was a boy dressed in a brown school uniform behind us whilst sat here I felt a boy’s presence he was about 10yrs old and quite scruffy in appearance. We sat here and called out several times with the odd noise happening but overall felt quite flat now after about 45 mins Jan and Jon joined us after about 10 mins of Ann, Jon and Jan calling out I felt the boy come towards us then used the emf meter this was silent all the other times we had used it tonight I called out for the spirit person to make its self known to us by moving the meter and it did the noise got louder when asked Jon was filming this happen and captured all this on film I asked if it was a man and it stayed quite then asked if it was a woman still stayed quite then asked if it was a boy it then moved louder I then asked his age he stopped us when it got to 8 by going louder, I then asked who was on the thrown to get the year we tried all kings and queens then Jan said queen Anne and it moved, I then felt him move away but the man who we picked up on last time come forward towards us I asked if this was him and it got louder Jan then asked if it was George and it went faster we then asked his age he made it goes faster at 40-42 then whilst talking to him kirsty phoned us Jon then asked would he like to talk to kirsty the emf meter went faster on then put it on speaker phone and kirsty called out is it you George and it went faster kirsty asked him a couple of questions each time it went faster with her dreaming about this man and her being at home on her own we stopped doing it because it was quite a bit spooky after she hung up we asked if he wanted to contact any of us but it did no move until we said Kristy’s name I was so glad Jon filmed this just to prove it happened and we have proof it will be put on a dvd to be released later on I called out several more times but felt him go away also Jan said she feels him move away bob then went all over the area with the emf meter to check it out and it never made a sound very strange bob then said he felt the presence of a little girl waving a white hanky under on of the tables we called out for about 20 mins then took a break and moved on to the platform.

The Platform

Bob and Ann left us as it was about 1.20 am so it left Jon, Jan and myself here I tried the pendulum and it started again just as it started to rain then went faster and faster just as the rain came down harder we think this has something to do with the lay lines as my dowsing rods spin when it rains here as well. We all called out for a sign Jon even knocked on the carriages after about 20mins we heard a bang come after asking we called again and it happened again but as soon as it started it stopped the rain started to come down harder and harder by now and it was getting harder to here any sounds due to the noise of the rain we waited for about 25 mins then called it a night

Conclusion

This was a fantastic 2nd investigation with even more evidence of the paranormal through the use of the emf meter also the picture kirsty had drawn was the man both Jan and I had picked up on previously it was a shame about the weather and that kirsty could not come but overall fantastic

Sheffield Town Hall Investigation

First Report By Mark Phillips

The Chamber and gallery

9.55 pm

We all met outside at 21.30 and went in to the town hall, we then went to a meeting area were our guide for the night gave us a really good talk about the history of the place he then took us to the main chamber were we split into 2 groups 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs

I started in the downstairs 1^st I called out for a few minutes but nothing came back then kirsty started to call out upstairs in the gallery and we could hear a banging noise

After a further few minutes felt the presence of a woman watching us from the back of the gallery I also felt that she jumped off this gallery, trying to kill herself also felt that people throw things down on to the councillors below

During this time also noticed that jans face altered and kev who was behind me in the corner started to feel sick and had a headache this cleared up after he left the area, I called out again and got my emf meter out and asked it to over the meter I had a few fluctuations but then passed it on to dawn and I tried the pendulum it started to rock slightly to and fro whilst this happened I felt the presence of a ex lord mayor come towards me he had glasses and was wearing a grey suit with big chain round his neck did not pass his name yet we carried on calling out and up in the gallery kept hearing banging

After about 20 mins we swapped around

When I walked in to the gallery I was drawn straight to the front over looking the chamber this is were the lady jumped from she was wearing a light coloured dress properly light brown and a bonnet I would say she was in her 30’s about 1930 ish year period also whilst up hear felt the name of the man come through it sounded like Robert storm graham I asked our guide if he had the names of ex lord mayors and said he would show me the ante room were there are pictures of all lord mayors in the past

We all settled down and I called out again I heard a tapping coming from the back of the gallery this was noticed by Kevin, Rachel and dawn as well

I then passed the pendulum to dawn to try as there was to much magnetic field for the emf meter but did not happen kev’s son sat at the other end of the balcony as he was drawn to this area this also was felt by Sandra when the other group did up here

Kirsty called out some more whilst there dawn called out to kirsty to sit in the 4^th from the end of the front row near where the lord mayor sits

I then noticed a light come on out side and then a light flashed across the ceiling could not rule out outside influence doing this as there are security about but our guide said they should not be about as he asked them to stay in the office

Whilst there she felt an uneasy feeling and both dawn and my self noticed a change in Kristy’s face it changed slightly to look older after about 10 mins she had to move we stayed in this area for another 10 mins but nothing else happened here other than what I have reported

Committee Room

11 15pm

We now moved on to the old library but now a conference/committee room with a large table in the middle of the room and book cupboards around the perimeter of the room

We were still split into 2 groups we did this room other group did other committee room next door

We all sat around the table and I called out but this room felt flat and calm think this is because it used to be a library quite a peaceful place

I called out several times but nothing was coming through we also did not have any response we stayed in this room for a further 20 mins calling out but nothing did happen I asked the guide if he could show me the ante room the one next to the main chamber

Ante Room

11.40pm

We all entered the room I was drawn straight away to a photograph on the wall of Robert storm graham he was lord mayor 1946-1947 was in a grey suit and he wore glasses this was quite a surprise as I had described this to the guide and his name

After looking around the room felt that the 2 arm chairs were not part of this room and the guide did then confirm this, I also felt the one near the toilet door was holding a strange presence and the other one was of calm presence kirsty sat in the one near the toilet kev and Rachel sat in the other the rest of us all sat round the table in the middle of the room in here we change our guide he went home and we got a security guard

I then called out after about 5 mins of calling I noticed shadows walk by under the door near the toilet so Jon then went outside to have a look and waited a while I started to call out again and kirsty who was sat in the chair said she felt a uneasy feeling in the chair so she then swapped with Faye

Kirsty then started to call out I noticed the room temp drop and we set up our voice recorders to see if we could pick up some evp’s will check these later on

Jon then came back into the room and we did some scrying with each other this is were you stare into each others face to see if they change I did this with Jon his face did change to one of a younger person also his eyes were more set back he then said mine changed and Jon then said I looked like one of the ex mayors a Mr Marshall his picture was on the wall

I was feeling that Rachel was uneasy at this stage and asked if she was ok she said had a headache and it was getting worse we called out for a further 10 mins and Sandra said she felt the presence of a woman we stayed her for another 15 mins with slight temp differences happening

Whilst in this room I felt the presence of a woman also Sandra picked up on this I feel she was not to do with the building but to do with one of us after a while I felt it was the security guard as the woman joined us when he entered the room and left when he did

The passages under the building

12.45am

This is a part of the building were the vaults are we split into 2 groups again one doing 1^st part and I did the end part

I started to call out had a uneasy feeling here but nothing other than that was coming through Sandra said she felt this as well here I was with 2 guest for the night who had joined us

I kept calling out and heard a bang and saw a flash of light after about 15 mins we joined up with the rest of the team as they were having some noises I waited here for another 25 mins also whilst here kev and Rachel left her headache was getting worse I do feel that she was being affected with the place we stayed her until about 01.45 am with odd lights anomalies and some tapping sounds

Conclusion

01.55 am

When I got back to the meeting place at the start of our night checked my temp gauge and during the night the temp in this room altered from 18.c to 24.c I was told that this room should not alter that much but thought I should make a note of this for future reference.

All in all this is fantastic venue the main chamber defiantly has spirits about most are residual type but some are of the Traditional Haunting type

There is so much more here to do and hopefully will be able to come back as this is a great venue and would recommend it to all.

The Chamber and gallery

9.55 pm

Team one of Jon, Kirsty, Jan, Faye; Sandra investigated the gallery area of the City Hall first, while team two investigated the main chamber. Kirsty began to call out “if anyone was with us from the spirit world could you please make a noise” before long we began to hear tapping noises coming from a window to the right hand side of the gallery. Janice informed us that she was feeling unwell and had bad stomach pains and Sandra became unwell too and this was affecting everyone who was present on this investigation. We all heard what sounded like someone sitting down on one of the wooden seats, then Faye and Kirsty and Jon all heard a woman whisper three words but we couldn’t work out what she said. One of the seats in front of Janice seemed to be much warmer then the others by two degrees when I was using the Digital Thermometer to take readings. Sandra noticed dark shapes moving on the ceiling on the main chamber and this was later witnessed by other people.

After 20mins we swapped over with group two and we made our way down to the main chamber, Kirsty and Jan took the lift down, while Faye and Sandra and Dawn went for a toilet break. Jon went down on his own and heard a women’s voice coming from the Committee room, thinking one of our members had got lost he decided to go inside and when entering the room it was dark and no one was inside.

Once all the team reconvened in the main chamber, Kirsty began to see the same dark shadows on the ceiling as Sandra and then Dawn called out for Kirsty sit in the 4^th chair from the end of the front row near where the lord mayor sits and Kirsty began to feel uneasy and uncomfortable sitting there, Jon began to take pictures of her sitting there but his digital camera was having problems taking any pictures. We noticed that the people on the gallery their faces seemed to be blurry.

Committee Room & Conference Room

Both groups felt that these areas had a warm and pleasant atmosphere to them and we moved on after 20mins.

Ante Room

Kirsty sat in an arm chair that Sandra had a feeling someone was in there when she entered the room and after a while Kirsty began to feel uneasy and Faye sat in the same chair and she also began to feel uneasy.

Kirsty heard footsteps coming from behind a door in the Ante Room which was the main corridor leading to the gents toilets so Jon decided to investigate this area while the others stayed in the room.

When we informed the security team about this, he informed us about something that happened two nights before us coming to investigate, he said he was doing a routine check of the area and saw a door close in the toilets and it felt like someone had walked past him.

The passages under the building

We thought we saw shadows moving at the end of the corridor near towards the lift and we felt a strong feeling of being watched from behind one of the doors. Rachel began to have a bad headache and had to leave to get some fresh air; we also saw the odd light anomalies on the ceiling.

Co-founders Final Conclusions

(Jon) We have to be honoured to be the first paranormal group ever to investigate the Sheffield Town Hall; I do believe it is worth a follow up investigation in the near future as there are so many rooms we never got the chance to investigate. One thing I can’t explain as a skeptic is how so many people felt unwell in such a small time period.

(Kirsty) I would say it is a fantastic place to investigate, I feel so privileged to have been apart of the first ever investigation at this location. I have no explanation as to why so many of the team felt unwell in the way that they did, I feel that this location definitely warrants a future investigation as I don’t think we have seen the town halls full paranormal potential. This place is full of history and so many important decisions have been made in this place that I feel this location as so many stories behind it and I would like to take the team back and do a full scale investigation.

Bishop's House 27th September 2008:

Bishop's House Investigation

First Report By Jonathan Slater

Time 9.00p.m

Investigation Team

Kirsty, Jon, Janice, Mark and Two bishops House curators Claire and Ben

Downstairs (The Old Kitchen)

The team were joined by two of Bishops house curators Claire and Ben. Were we began to do an experiment using the EMF meter; we began to ask out questions asking “if anyone was with us” could they possibly make the meter increase in sound. Within a few minutes the EMF meter began to increase in sound, so much that it went of the scale and then it suddenly dropped in sound in seconds.

Kirsty began to feel the presence of a large hunting dog, later confirmed by Ben and Claire that at one time in the buildings history these kinds of dogs would have been common place and used for hunting.

Downstairs Main Hall

Janice felt unwell while she sat in one of the display chairs in the main hall and one part of the room was five degrees colder then any other part.

Kirsty heard crockery rattlerling and moving in a cupboard

Upstairs (The Bell Room)

The bell room had a pleasant atmosphere to it and very little happened in there, while in there we all heard footsteps and someone moving about in what is now the exhibition room.

The Exhibition Room

The whole team felt uneasy in this room, everybody started to feel unwell. The most starterling event of the night was when both Mark and Kirsty both saw a girl in her late teens or early twenties wearing black jeans or trousers and a zip up top standing on top of the stairs and peering into the room we was in. We all thought it could have been a member of the other team who had come upstairs, but we later found out that all the members of the other group were all downstairs at that time.

The girl appeared for around fifteen seconds before she vanished. Another strange happening in the room happened when Kirsty noticed the hair of a doll moving in an airtight display case, we began calling out for whatever it was in the room with us to make a noise or move something as we did this we began to hear tapping noises coming from inside the display case.

Kirsty called out for a girl she picked up on called Emily, soon as she had finished calling out her name the temperature dropped instantly and a cold breeze seemed to be moving around in between us all who were in the room.

We all heard more tapping noises coming from inside the room from various locations.

We noticed a pencil laying in the centre of the carpet which wasn’t there beforehand, even team two couldn’t explain how it got there as it wasn’t there when they investigated that room before us. Ben and Claire couldn’t work out how it got there as all the pencils are kept downstairs in a cupboard in the kitchen.

Before we finished our vigil in that room we placed the pencil on the display case above the doll and when the other team went back upstairs it had moved.

As we finished our vigil upstairs and began to head downstairs we all heard a very loud bang like something had been dropped on the wooden floor.

Downstairs (The oldest part of the house)

This has a very pleasant atmosphere to it and nothing un-towards happened.

Upstairs (the oldest bedroom)

The curtains in this room moved but we couldn’t find the source to how this was happening

We started in the small room in the newest part of the house, within a few minutes my self and Faye felt like the room was going dark and then light again, it was almost like something had walked in front of us then disappeared. Jayne and Cheryl were sat in the corner under the antlers on the wall and both of them felt there was a cold draft coming from them, at the same time orbs were seen around the antlers and it looked like they were going very dark and almost not visible then re appeared again. We tried table divination and calling out but got no reply but the video camera that was filming the table turned its self off.

We then moved into the main room in the centre of the house, As soon as we entered the room Cheryl went really cold and I asked if there was someone there to make her go colder and she did, She held out her hand and Sandra asked the Spirit to just make her hand go cold, again this happened, I measured the temperature and it was the same as the rest of the room but a cold area was present around her hand

The group downstairs asked if anyone could knock to show they were there and at the same time 3 distinctive knocks were heard coming from the corner behind Cheryl. I called out again but nothing happened, A few minuted after this the door handle in the small room rattled, most of the team went to see what it was and as they were investigating that foot steps were heard in the other room next door, after the footsteps I constantly got the impression something was watching us through the door. Just before the break we moved into the next room which was split into 2 rooms, faint knocks were heard in the from section of the room and orbs were also caught on camera.

After the break we started in the main room but unfortunately got no response so we moved into the small room in the newest section of the house, in here we used an Ouija board and to start with it was like someone was really trying to move the panchette but was unable to. we started to get the letters GRA and Faye felt her Grandma had tried to come through. We tried again and had the same problem again someone tried to come through but only managed a few letters then stopped, to finish the night we had one last attempt on the Ouija board and made contact with someone else, we managed to find out he was male and then we got interference on the walkie talkie from a local taxi company, I made a joke about it and the spirit seemed to laugh on the Ouija board, unfortunately at this point the lights came back on and nothing happened after that.

Second floor-Corner Room

Several orbs were captured on video camera and a strange apparition was captured on Mark’s camera in the lower right hand corner of the screen, several knockings and tapping noises were heard in the joining rooms.

We picked up on a spirit woman in her late 20’s called “Alice” a prostitute who had her child terminated and Kirsty also picked up on a spirit of a woman and she felt she had suffered several beatings at the hands of her punters.

First Room

The team picked up an elderly woman known as Bernadette but better known as Bernie a woman aged about 50-60, she is dressed in mourning clothing and the team felt she was not associated to the other woman. The feeling she emits is stomach churning sickness and extreme sadness.

Main Corridor

Jon had an experience as he was stood by the fire place on the top corridor, he felt his top half of his body was freezing and his lower half was hot, as if the fire was burning his legs.

First Floor

Several orbs were captured on digital cameras/video cameras and the door in the room opened twice by itself.

Bedroom

The bedroom had a nice atmosphere to it and nothing occurred during the night

Main Front Bedroom

Kirsty, Mark and Jan picked up the spirit of an Alsatian dog that was following the team around on this floor, also the team heard a piano being played down in the bar area later confirmed by Jason that a part of the downstairs was called the piano room. We also heard a clock ticking, even though we could not find one in that room.

Upstairs Office

We heard tapping noises and banging coming from this room as we entered it, we tried table tipping on a round table that was in the room and after awhile it seemed to be vibrating and moving very slightly.

We also did a glass deviation experiment using a wine glass we found nearby and before long the glass began to move to our questions “of are you male or female”, we picked up on a male presences who’s first name began with the letter P as Mark went through the alphabet until the glass moved at the letter P. We asked every name we could think of beginning with that letter P but without luck. So we asked out what connection this person had with The York, “was you an ex drinker of the pub and did you live here”, but we got no response to this until Kirsty asked out were you a physician who used to do abortions here and the glass moved violently, then Kirsty asked are you the “Penny Doctor” (The Penny Doctor also dealt with the ladies of the night in the Sheffield area getting rid of their unwanted pregnancies among other gruesome things he did). Mark had a feeling that part of The York was once a chemist and that back street abortions would have been common place in the upstairs backroom.

Downstairs Bar Area and Cellar

This was hard to investigate with all the refurbishments taking place and all the lights that were on, we did pick up on the presence of a man who seemed to be following Jason around. Jason told us about a man who used to drink at The York and The Dove and Rainbow and is seen by Jason every now and then sat in the same place in The York.

We would like to thank Jason for being so kind in letting us investigate The York and for taking part in the investigation

Co-founders Final Conclusions

(Jon)The York is a wonderful building to investigate especially the second floor; I’ll look forward to going back there in the near future to do a full investigation of the downstairs and cellar areas.

(Kirsty)The investigation at The York definitely came up with some surprising results, the glass divination session really surprised me especially when I asked if the spirit was a physician and the glass shot across the table. The York itself is a wonderful place especially the upstairs areas and i would definitely like to conduct a follow up investigation.

Location- Women’s Downstairs Toilet

While Kirsty was in the women’s toilet she picked up on the presence of a man who was loitering between the main entrance way and the ladies toilet, he was a kind of Jack the lad kind of man, he was straight forward in what he said, but not in a sexual way but just in a comedy playful way saying to her “are you alright darling” and he also said “What are you doing here” and then he just vanished. Kirsty said this man had a broad Yorkshire accent.

Up Stairs Committee Room

Having previous knowledge before entering this room of what happened when this room was once an office we set up our equipment and started our first vigil.

Mark tapped on a table twice and we got two knocks back, we also heard a loud growling noise outside the committee room and we all heard the door rattle like someone was trying to come inside, we also heard various tapping noises while we all sat inside this room.

While doing a glass divination experiment on one of the tables we began to pick up on the name Eddy who was a past drinker of the club and a cleaner who used to work at the lane top called Mary who died when she was 39 and was local to the area.

Up Stairs Games Room

We set up the white snooker balls on the middle spots of the snooker tables to see if they would move while we was in this room and we set up a triangle on the pool table and asked out if anyone could please move at least one of these items.

We carried on with our experiment with the glass divination and we got more information on Mary, she told us that she once lived on Woolley Wood Road and that she was scared of the spirit downstairs who stood by the bar area.

Mark picked up on a woman called Jean who died of cancer.

Kirsty tried automatic writing which we had good results, when Mark asked if Mary had anything to say, the pen began to move and the words “not half” was written down and Kirsty began to feel sick. Also on two other occasions the name Edd and Eddy was written down and also the name Roger was repeated several times on the same piece of paper.

Roger a committee member confirmed that cleaner called Mary once did work there.

Concert Room Downstairs

We found this area to have a very pleasant atmosphere to it

Main Bar and Lounge Area’s

We was told by Roger that the ghost of Fred Middleton an old steward of the Lane Top Club is often seen standing at the end of the bar. While we was doing the glass divination experiment with club committee members Wallace and Roger and while Kevin who runs the place sat and watched the temperature began to drop instantly and we all felt this.

We heard a knocking noise on one of the walls and we all heard footsteps coming towards us in the main bar area.

Co-founders Final Conclusions

(Jon) I enjoyed the experience of investigating the Sheffield Lane Top WMC but in my personal opinion there was no scientific evidence to back up any claims that the Club is haunted but i still thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to investigate it.

(Kirsty) The investigation at the Lane Top club was a varied one in many ways and i enjoyed trying different methods in trying to communicate with the spirit world. I feel that there is a strong presence of a man which still lingers in the club itself, which i feel gives some members of staff a comforting feeling as they were associated with this man when he was alive. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to investigate the Sheffield Lane Top Club.

Message to the Haunted Realm on the 25^th November 2008 by Jason owner of The York

when the workman’s tools for the refurb were being stored on the 1st floor, items disappeared or appeared to have moved about from room to room overnight when the premises were all locked up and secure. Richard, one of my bar team, said he was up there alone collecting some tools when a door slammed shut violently, despite no open windows and it being a calm day, and no one else above ground floor level. I first experienced something myself more recently, as on Sat I began clearing out the junk from the 1st floor with a view towards complete refer, new flooring, decorating it throughout, new furniture, etc. As I was cleaning out one of the rooms I noticed a black shape move to the right in front of me and disappear into a wall, accompanied by a shuffling sound that was very audible. Seconds later several of the black bin liners I had filled with rubbish ready to be moved out appeared to, out of the corner of my eye, all move and change

position on the floor. Later that afternoon I started to move a few bits and pieces into the 1st floor rooms, such as paintings and cushions and part of a stereo system, when I was very aware of something pushing the back of my left shoulder with some force........in the direction of the stairs to the ground floor.

Not TOO worried about this, as had things like this in my life before, I continued the next day measuring up the 1st floor rooms for laminate flooring, etc, and changing about 11 light bulbs, as most of the bulbs were dead. I tried all the light switches and all new bulbs worked fine. An hour later,when I returned, and turned on the lights one by one, I found only 1 bulb was working, (the electrics have all been certified as 100% fine too) and 2 candle bulbs in the lounge appeared to have been crushed in their sockets, like being squeezed in a hand, so that bits of glass fell inwards and not outwards....the other 9 new bulbs were all dead, or appeared to be dead.

the final straw was Sunday when I went back upstairs with my bar manager, Matt, just to note down some measurements of the windows, and all seemed fine until we got back to the ground floor,

when I noticed blood was dripping from my right hand. I had some sort of cut on my middle finger at the base, and it was bleeding intensely, so I washed it. A minute later, Matt, who had been upstairs with me, and touched NOTHING up there, his hand started bleeding and dripping badly in exactly the same place as mine. However, there was no pain, and no hint as to how this happened, but we are both convinced the cuts are some sort of bite mark. I had decided to take this further and went back upstairs, and this time most of the former dead light bulbs were now working, which was very bizarre as they certainly did not work before, and the lights are all on one fuse, so if one works, they all should work, unless the bulb was dead. I went into the far end room, the curved one, and was met by a most horrible icy feeling of negative energy that almost had a texture to it......this was the room right below the one on the 2nd floor where all the orb activity was when you came before......I was very disturbed by this and had to go downstairs again, only to find three long scratches down my arm which had nearly drawn blood, but not quite deep enough, and to which appeared out of nowhere.....

I feel something is trying to prevent me from doing any work on the 1st floor, and certainly does not wish me to occupy any space up there, or want me to change anything. I am at a loss as what to do

so hoping you may be able to help......none of my staff will now venture up there at all.

Second floor of The York

Strangely the second floor seemed to be less active than the last time we visited and that Mark and Kirsty felt that the spirits on this floor were apprehensive of the workmen and refurbishment taking place and were keeping their distance.

First floor of The York

We started the vigil and walkabout of the first floor in a part that wasn’t originally part of the pub, but was added on to the pub in 1995 and was once a fruit and vegetable shop till it became apart of the York. Kirsty heard a man crying in one of the empty rooms, she picked up that he was very lonely and he was seriously depressed and was an alcoholic, over weight, wore dirty clothes and he wasn't interested in his appearance. Kirsty felt that the only time he left that room was to get another drink.

We all heard footsteps coming from the second floor and shuffling noise on the upstairs floor, as i went to investigate the noise on the second floor i noticed a set of keys moving in a lock on the corridor leading out of the rooms Kirsty heard this man crying. As the others came to look at the keys we all heard a tapping noise coming from another door on the same corridor.

The Managers Office – First Floor

While in this room Mark heard a noise behind where he was sat

Main Corridor – First Floor

Both Kirsty and Mark both sensed that this corridor was haunted by the same dog they picked up before and this was causing the scratch marks as it was jumping up as it was making it’s self known like it was excited to see who ever came up on that floor.

The Main Front Bedroom – First Floor

Kirsty and Mark both picked up on the same women they did the last time we did the investigation there. We all saw light anomalies on video and with our naked eyes; we also saw a light had been turned on in a walk in wardrobe that wasn’t on before we was in there. Mark’s video camera turned itself off and you could hear the camera click its self off at that same moment our video camera froze and then carried on recording.

Cleansing Ritual – First Floor

Kirsty cleansed all the first floor using a sage brush and whilst in the room where the depressed man lived as she was about to smudge the doorway to the room the spirit man whistled loudly and was heard by Jason and Mark and afterwards we all felt the atmosphere on the first floor had changed and felt much lighter. We left Jason a sage brush and he felt more at ease with the first floor as he felt the atmosphere had lifted. And we assured Jason that we were only a phone call away if he ever needed our help again and we would be there within hours.

Co-founders Final Conclusions

(Jon) We responded early to Jason's request for help from the team and arrived at The York on the same day as the email landed on our mat so to speak, The York from the outside looks a modern looking building like any run of the mill pub, but upstairs on the second floor it has stayed in the same condition for decades run down and need of some TLC (tender loving care) I can’t explain some of the evp’s i’ve heard from this place as they are quite intriguing and as the skepic of the group their must be something in what i have heard to mention them in this final report, the one asking for “help” is so clear. I can’t say if The York is haunted as their isn’t enough evidence to back this up for me, but i would like to thank Jason and the Staff at The York for giving us the chance to investigate this place and for their kind hospitality towards us and for joining in.

(Kirsty) I have to admit i was very suprised by the email we recieved from Jason detailing all the events that had occurred at The York in our absence, as soon as i read it i couldn't wait to get back there and try and help Jason get to the bottom of what was happening at The York. I truly believe that the pub is without a doubt haunted and i feel that with The York being made up of different builings joined together over the years could have brought different spirits and energies into the one building has i feel some of the spirits that wonder The York are related to what the buildings use to be before they all got put together to become the pub we see there today. I really enjoyed both investigations at The York and it was really nice to help a friend in need and hopefully put some closure on the spirits too.

The Landing

Kirsty picked up on the presence of a small dog, a Chihuahua and Jon saw a black shape move across the doorway while he was in the front bedroom.

Back Bedroom (Gemma's Room)

Light anomalies could be seen clearly on the bedroom ceiling and through the view finder of the camcorder. Banging noises could be heard on the bedroom wall and a cupboard door opened by itself. Kirsty picked up on the presence of a black mass of a person in this room which had no facely features at all. The mass has a manly feeling to it and Gemma feels that something sits at the bottom of the bed, Jordan gets electric shocks on his feet whilst lying on the bed.

Kirsty and Gemma feel this mass stands in the corner of the bedroom and just watches whoever is in the room and likes people to know he is present in the room.

Master Bedroom (Amanda's Bedroom)

Kirsty picked up on the presence of an elderly woman who likes to stare out of the same window as Amanda does. Kirsty also picked up on the presence of a cat that belonged to the family. This room has a depressing and sad feeling to it which Kirsty feels affects Amanda.

Attic

Kirsty picked up on the presence of a Jewish man in his mid 40’s, he wore a green suit and he was about five foot nine in height, he was distressed due to the fact a prayer paper had been removed from the house. We witnessed light anomalies and had problems with one of the video cameras as it kept blurring and fading in and out but upon leaving the room it worked completely fine.

The Back Garden

The family claime to have seen children in white night dresses in the back garden and this was picked up on by Kirsty and Mark who felt that the children belonged to the workhouse that once stood on the site of the house, but nothing was captured on the night by the HRPI team.

Co-founders Final Conclusions

(Jon) Without doing more scientific tests on the cupboard in the back bedroom I can’t really explain how the door opened. The black shape I saw on the landing area while I was in the front bedroom, all I can say that I couldn’t count for everyone in the house who was moving about at that time, also the light didn’t work on the landing, so anyone walking past would have been in shadow.

I really enjoyed the investigation and I would like to thank the family for their very king hospitality. I can’t say the house is haunted as I don’t have any evidence to back up on what the family have claimed to have experienced.

(Kirsty) I found this investigation very interesting and intriguing as i was shocked by how much activity the family claimed to be experiencing. During the nights investigation we experienced some very strange phenomena from the cupboard door opening and the light anomalies that were seen by all four members of the HRPI team. I believe that most of the spirit activity comes from what stood on the land before the house itself as we now know the land once housed a workhouse and once was the surrounding land of a mental asylum so i believe that most of the spiritual energies belong to the history of the land. I cannot explain most of the experiences we had during the investigation but i certainly believe the house in Anlaby Road is Haunted.

Private House Investigation Report 2 By Team Leader Mark Phillips

We arrived at the house it’s a mid terrace house unsure when built but would think 1950’s

As soon as I saw the property I was drawn to the back garden could feel that there had being sighting’s of a woman wearing what l would described a school nurse uniform walking through the garden towards the top of the road. I met Amanda and her family, Jon did a tour of the house with Amanda whilst I, Jan and kirsty stayed down stairs. Then kirsty did her walk around the house I waited down stairs

I did a tour of the house with Jon and Amanda went to the first floor. The first room I was drawn to was the small bedroom were I felt a presence of a small boy in this room aged about 9 years old. We then moved to Amanda’s bedroom I could feel unrest in this room, on the wall opposite the bed I could sense a vortex in the middle of the wall it was quite strange. I then moved up to the attic room whilst walking to the room I felt I was being watched by a man called George small about 5.5 in height about early 60’s but was English with a foreign name like a polish one but I felt he was English. When we entered the room I felt he moved away into the house next door I think he moves along all the houses in the area

On walking back down stairs I could pick up on a small dog running around but it hangs around the attic bedroom

I went back down stairs to join the rest of the team.

Master Bedroom (Amanda’s Bedroom)

We then split up into two teams I was with Jan and Amanda we went to Amanda’s bedroom first

We had just got in and Jan started to take photo’s when she got one with a strange black shadow on the wall just as we were looking at it Kirsty came in and said have you been banging on the wall we said no then showed her the picture it was very strange as that’s were the noise came from, Jan also took a picture straight after with no shadow. We then carried on with the investigation whilst in the room could sense the vortex on the room swirling round. We called out for any spirits to make a nose but did not get any responses. After about 20 mins we swapped and went into the small room.

Back Bedroom (Gemma’s Room)

Whilst in this room I could sense the presence off two children watching over the cot girl and the boy I earlier picked up on she is about 12 years old. We called out and asked for any spirits in the room to respond by giving a sign after about 10 mins we heard the odd tap but unsure if it was them wanting to contact we carried on calling out and waiting I thought I saw a dark shadow walk near the wall near the built in cupboard. We had a couple more bangs from the room no temperature changes were recorded, we stayed there for another 10 mins

We all came down stairs for a break I was in the kitchen with Amanda looking at her photos she found in the attic and saw a spirit shadow walk past at the end of the room

We then moved up to the attic room

Attic

We all arrived up there and were joined by Jon ‘s group

We all sat around and started to call out whilst Kirsty was calling out we all saw a light move up towards the window. This happened several times during the investigation I was sat on the bed with Kirsty and Amanda whilst on the bed we were calling out and felt a temperature change, we also felt the bed move slightly and had a banging come from the rear of us. We then set up a table and had a go at glass divination we all placed our finger on top we called out and the glass moved towards the yes we continued with this for the next 10 mins with different fingers on the glass

Also in the room I had set a trigger object up which was 3 coins, on leaving the room I noticed the middle one had moved we carried on with the investigation for another 20 minutes, we had a couple more light anomalies.

I went back downstairs and went outside with Jon and Amanda just to see if we could pick up anything, i could sense the presence of the woman again

Team Leaders Final Conclusion

(Mark) The house does have some very active areas, there are both residual ghosts and active ghosts at the house. A fantastic house to investigate would like to thank Amanda and her family for inviting us to their house and I’ll look forward to returning to do the follow up investigation.
