The Ghosts of Tamworth Castle
By
Chris GibsonThe imposing sturdy walls of Tamworth's ancient castle make it the ideal location for any self-respecting spirit to make a home. It is so popular in fact that there are said to be two ghosts who have made this place their home. Both of these ghosts are female and they are known as the White Lady and the Black Lady respectively.
The castle is well over one thousand years old and is steeped in history. Tamworth was once the capital of Mercia and King Offa had a royal palace here. The White Lady is said to be the distraught lover of a knight named Sir Tarquin who was killed in battle on the meadow below the castle walls. His assailant reputed to be none other than Sir Lancelot probably the best known of all King Arthur's knights. The White Lady is said to walk along the terrace nightly weeping for her dead lover, whose death she witnessed in the meadow below.
Over the years there have been several attempts to obtain conclusive evidence of these hauntings. In 1949 a team of four "Ghost hunters" including a press photographer on the trail of the castle's other ghost The Black Lady set themselves up for an overnight vigil in the castle. Their aim was to obtain photographic evidence of the phenomena. In order to rule out any trickery a comprehensive mesh of strings was set up across the door to the room that the team was to occupy for the night, this was to prevent anyone entering or leaving the room undetected. This same precaution was taken at the top of the staircase next to the room. As a further precaution against any hoaxes within the group they were all tied together at the wrists or feet. The photographer was obviously allowed to move his hands in order to operate his camera
The group established themselves in their chosen location and waited as the clock approached midnight they gave up the comfort of their torches and waited in the darkness. As the clock struck midnight they all perceived a marked drop in temperature of the room in which they were seated. Moments later the four men heard the sound of the door in the room above them being pushed open followed by a series of footsteps. They then heard more soft footsteps as if someone were descending the staircase towards them. The photographer with the party fired off a flash in order to capture the source of the footsteps.
Later upon examination of the strings at the top of the staircase from whence the "visitor" had descended, these were all found to be in order and undisturbed. When the film taken during this event was developed it was purported to show a hooded figure on the staircase. A similar experiment was carried out in the 1960's and included a reporter from the town's local paper the Tamworth Herald amongst the team of "Ghost hunters". However on this occasion no evidence was obtained.
The ghost of the Black Lady is said to be St Editha who was a nun at Polesworth Abbey near Tamworth.
These nuns were expelled from their Abbey and lands by Sir Roger le Marmion who was lord of Tamworth Castle from around 1101.It was to Sir Roger's son Sir Robert Marmion that the ghost of St Editha later appeared in 1139. She warned him that unless he restored the Abbey and it's lands to the nuns he would die a terrible death; she then struck him with her crosier and caused a horrific wound that it is said did not heal until he had restored the Abbey as St Editha had commanded. There is a modern day re-enactment of this event for visitors to see within Tamworth Castle.

Bringing Compassion to "Ghostbusting"
The term "ghostbusting" has become a popular term used to describe paranormal investigating by those not within the field and sadly by those who are in the field of the paranormal. As Ive become more involved Ive come to dislike the term "ghostbusting". It seems to hold a disrespectful energy in it. As investigators its not our intention to ZAP the spirits and hold them hostage in a little box. It should be our intention, however, to hold an intervention of sorts to help them transition to their new place within the universe.I’m not sure how I would describe myself. Im empathic, but I hesitate to use the term "medium", there are so many who are so much more gifted, although by definition thats what I do. I feel, see, and can communicate with spirits who are earthbound. The last few years Ive had the honor of working with individuals who had activity in their homes. As I encountered each earthbound spirit, it was obvious to me that they needed love and compassion. There was the young girl who died and was buried on the wagon trail. She wanted a family again. There was the man who would sit looking out a kitchen window. He was afraid to crossover because he feared "Gods Wrath".Do I have proof of these spirits existence? No, only what I felt and saw. The investigator in me wants that proof. Wants something tangible, but the empath in me only wants to assure these souls that they are all right and that they can crossover safely. I want them to know they are loved and have many waiting for them on the other side.
I’ve seen and heard of investigators taunting spirits and trying to get them to do "circus tricks" in order to get proof of their existence without showing any compassion for what these spirits are feeling. Does that mean we shouldnt try to communicate with earthbound spirits? Its through the communication with and the compassionate understanding of why they are still here that we can help them move on. I think its only human nature that we have a fascination with the unseen, but don’t lose sight of the fact that they are like you and I, only on another plane. Lets investigate every chance we get, but do it with respect for those earthbound spirits. They may not have had that emotional support while in their earthly bodies, but we can certainly give that to them now.

HPI: Woodland Opera House, West Sacramento Residence, and Nancy Bradley - Celebrity Psychic to the Stars, Investigations!
By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter
Edited by Shannon 'Ms. Macabre' McCabe
Before I get on with the story about the Woodland Opera House Investigation, I would like to talk about another investigation that occurred again at a West Sacramento residence. This is an ongoing investigation that we have been doing for about 6 months now and it always produces excellent results! Investigators present: Shannon McCabe, Mary Casiano, Paul Dale Roberts, and Tim Hawkins. Media Present: Robert Victor Scheide aka R.V. of the Sacramento News & Review and Paul Dale Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter. I get to be on two lists (smile).
There was an incredible amount of information and phenomenon that R.V. witnessed, and I will let him explain that in his article that he will be writing for Sacramento News & Review. R.V. of course, had to be blindfolded for his ride to the West Sac residence. Shannon picked him up in her "Ectoplasmobile" and blindfolded him with her black Chanel scarf. RV must have felt like he was captured by a terrorist group....poor guy. The reason R.V. was blindfolded was to ensure the confidentiality of the occupants and the residence. We could not have any chance of the address or occupants names being released.
I should let you know this is all occurred on September 14, 2007, Friday. I will give you a brief idea of what occurred... R.V. witnessed moving and darting orbs on video, while he sat in the kitchen. He watched the TV monitor and called upon the entities. The orbs darted around R.V. in a constant and deliberate manner. When R.V. departed, Tim Hawkins brought out his dowsing rods and acquired the following information: The entities are upset with the renovation that is occurring in the home. The entities do not like the contractors. The entities did not appreciate the investigation this night. The entities say there were no ghostly children present tonight. The entities indicated that they can hear Mary speaking. Mary asked the entities if they can hear her talking, they indicated 'yes' via EVP.
The dowsing rods then pointed to the portal in the house twice. The portal is located in the office. Tim immediately goes toward the office and feels energy at the portal. Mary starts to get goosebumps on her legs. I felt a cold rush down my back. While we are at the portal location in the office, Mary and I hear a faint knock in the kitchen area. One of the occupants indicated to me, that lately she has heard faint laughter and voices when she is laying in bed with her head on the pillow. But, the knocking was unexplainable this night.
While R.V. was present, Alicia uploaded and played back an EVP that was recorded while he was sitting in the kitchen. R.V. seemed pretty amazed and the phenomenon. Shannon asks the entity if she likes me. The entity says "handsome". Another EVP recorded this night said "yes" to a question that Alicia asked. All in all it was a great night at the West Sacramento Residence, and we thank the owners for letting us into their home again, it is always an enlightening experience! Be on the lookout for the October issue of Sacramento News & Review for the full story on this investigation!
Well, I am still not ready to talk about the Saturday, September 15, 2007 investigation of the Woodland Opera House. I want to give you details of an unusual email I received from Langston Williams. A gentleman I met at a neighborhood block party. He had a very odd paranormal encounter. Let's see what he says in his email:
"Hey Mr.Roberts! How's it going? I was at Gloria R's block party.
Here is the story I want to send you. On July the 24th 2007, My mom and I flew to Las Vegas. We checked into the Treasure Island Hotel on Las Vegas Strip. There we met up with my aunt, uncle, and two cousins. We stayed on the 14th floor of the hotel. That night we all stayed in the room. The first night I awoke in the middle of the night as normal, because I was stressed about getting a new job. No big deal. The second night I again was awakened by something or someone in the room. Not sure what it was. My uncle has Lou Garrick's Disease. I thought maybe he might need me to move my bed so he can have access to the bathroom because of his condition. My bed was on the floor near the restroom. Again nothing. I looked up. No light in the bathroom. Everyone is sound asleep. I fall back to sleep. On the 3rd night the same old thing. The difference is, I woke up that morning half sleep around 7 a.m. I wanted to catch another hour before we hit the road. As I was falling back to sleep, I felt like someone or something was pushing their fingers down at end of my bed around my feet. At first I was thinking it could be a rodent? It wasn't. My heart rate began to rise as I awoke from my half sleep knowing that everyone in the room was asleep. I looked up to try and see any shadows or feel a temperature change. Nothing. I just needed to get out of that bed. I was half spooked but half irritated because sleep is important to me. I knew I did not want to go back to sleep in that room and was glad we were going to hit the road soon. I do know when someone dies in a house or dwelling there is a stigma attached. Especially if the death was a suicide or violent death. Las Vegas being Vegas it could be any one of those things. Some people believe me, some give me a crazy look. I don't care! I know what I experienced at the Treasure Island Hotel in Las Vegas, Langston Williams"
Whew!! That is one scary night at the Treasure Island Hotel in Las Vegas. Langston, you didn't tell me what room it was, so that way I can make sure I never sleep in that room! Yikes! Well, it looks like I can now get the show on the road. Let's talk about that Woodland Opera House Haunting Investigation. Let's get some history of the place first. Here are the facts received from Kristen Sheley (HPI Investigator/Researcher)...as Joe Friday of Dragnet would say..."just the facts ma'am":
1885: Woodland Opera House is built.
1896: Opera House is rebuilt after being destroyed by fire four years earlier.
1913: More than 300 touring companies appear on the Opera House's stage during a 17-year run. Because of the growing popularity of motion pictures and an injury lawsuit, the Opera House is closed and boarded up.
1971: Yolo County Historical Society purchases the building, which that year is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
1973: Opera House becomes a California Registered Historical Landmark (No. 851).
1976: The Opera House is declared a California State Historic Park.
1980: The Opera House is donated to the state of California.
1981: A $2 million restoration begins.
1989: The Opera House reopens and, for the first time in nearly eight decades, begins to offer live entertainment year-round.
2008: A $2.2 million Opera House expansion is planned with funding from a sales tax extension. The renovation will include a new performing arts center for young people.
The date is: Saturday, September 15, 2007 and the Woodland Opera House Investigation commences.
Entering Woodland is like walking into a piece of Americana history. The town has a cozy feeling to it, with shops and businesses like The House Dresser (which sells antiques), Osaka Sushi, the 1914 R.B. Cranston Building, Ludy's Main Street BBQ and Tazzina Bistro. Even the sign on the light post says.."Stroll Through History". I come upon the famous Woodland Opera House and the HPI team is assembling outside. Alicia Perry, Lead Investigator gives paranormal investigators Jennifer Baca, Mary Casiano, Holly DeLaughter, Brian Colbert, Cherie Vincent, Shannon McCabe, Michelle Paykel and John Wachter aka Vlawde a briefing. Of course, I'm right in the middle, listening to the briefing too.
Alicia explains that she conducted a pre-investigation on August 25, Saturday with John Wachter, Michelle Paykel, Mary Casiano, Jennifer Baca and Carol Gillis. In the pre-investigation Michelle saw a ball of light in the balcony, they picked up a slew of EVPs. The EVPs that were analyzed said: "go back", "turn around", "go", "no", "it's Black's fault, get him Pa", "I'm more powerful". One of the EVPs they captured in the balcony is believed to be an entity named William. And a lot of digital photographs captured strange and unusual orb activity.
During our investigation, Mary Casiano's EMF Reader goes off at one particular seat in the 2nd back row. Shannon sits behind the seat and tries to communicate with the entity. She pretends to massage the entity's shoulders and the EMF Reader goes off like a firetruck emergency siren for an 4 alarm fire! This took place for about 3 or 4 minutes and we luckily caught it on video. After a while the EMF Reader finally stops, while Shannon moves her wrists around, tired from massaging the air. When I walked into one of the dressing rooms, I closed the door behind me and sat in the dressing room for about 20 minutes in the dark. I tried this with another dressing room and the temperature gauge reads 32. There is a cold chill. The temperature gauge reads 78 and everything is back to normal. Holly DeLaughter takes a photo of me and to everyone's surprise, it looks like an entity is fusing with my head, there is something projecting out of my neck and a woman's leg is imprinted into my shorts. I told Holly to definitely send me this unusual photo, this is a photo that needs to be seriously analyzed. Alicia shakes her head and says..."Paul, you attract them all!" There was even one time, I thought I heard a female's voice say "Paul". I asked Jennifer Baca if she called my name and she said "no". Of course, it could have just been my over-active imagination, but who knows? Jennifer was telling me that a ghost by the name of William Porter haunts the building and supposedly he died fighting a fire. Porter died in the back alley outside when the wall collapsed on him. Jennifer suggested I read the news clippings about this firefighter, because she didn't want to give me the wrong information. I was heading that way, when Shannon tells me that it's time to boogie.
Shannon and I had to leave Woodland for another investigation and a semi-documentary called, "Ghost Girls" starring Shannon McCabe and Nancy Bradley -Celebrities Psychic to the Stars. Shannon and I, went directly to Shannon's home to meet up with Chris Grissom, HPI investigator and excellent camera guy. Chris and I, jumped into the "Ectoplasmobile" and with Shannon at the wheel, went to Placerville to meet up with Nancy Bradley, her husband Robert Reppert who runs the Gold Rush Ghosts (Paranormal Investigative Group) and Nancy's assistant, Catherine Noble.
Nancy Bradley has a beautiful home that looks like a museum, filled with antiques and filled with memorabilia of her glory days as a professional dancer and psychic! We found out that this is not exactly her home, but Nancy's office! What a place... it looks like a home, but it isn't. How wonderful. There was so much to see, it would be almost impossible to put it in words. Nancy's office is incredibly haunted and we all tested the stairwell, where there is incredible orb activity going on. Robert, Nancy's husband keeps a video camera stationed in the stairwell to monitor the unusual orb activity. Nancy gave us the grand tour and we met her Whippet dog 'Sammy' and Smooth Collie 'Bailey'. Nancy also feeds the rats that live underneath her outdoor patio. She thinks there are something like 36 rats that live underneath there. When Nancy brings out the food, the rats are at her feet begging. When I step out into the patio, they squirm underneath. Nancy also has some cats that eye the friendly, cute, rats as food. Nancy gets after the cats and tells the cats to stop misbehaving. Nancy is an unbelievable animal lover, and sees all living creatures as beautiful beings.. not vermin.
Nancy says that her home used to be owned by a mortician and he kept some of the corpses in the area that is now the front office. There was a woman named Catherine who was shot by her husband in the upstairs bedroom.
As I talked with Nancy, I discover that she is the sweetest woman I have ever met, she is so down-to-earth and loving. She lived an incredible life and talks about the celebrity's that she's met from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., to Milton Berle. She tells me how Milton once told her that "dancers are a dime a dozen". Wow! I have something in common with Nancy, when I was a professional dancer and tried to make it to the big time in Hollywood, the movie producer of Rollerboogie told me the exact same thing. I told Nancy, I drove back from Hollywood to Sacramento and a song came on with these words reverberating from my radio speakers..... 'Leaving on a Midnight Train to Georgia...Hollywood proved too much for the man'. Nancy laughed. I told Shannon, I have to come back and do a full blown article on Nancy, because a blurb in this article, doesn't do her justice.
Catherine Noble, her assistant explains to me that she has been with Nancy for 8 years and Nancy has been her guiding light, life coach, counselor, and she also is a paranormal investigator with Gold Rush Ghosts, run by Nancy's husband Robert Reppert. I can see why Nancy is able to impact peoples' lives, she impacted my life in the short time talking with her, when she told me that a short woman with the name of Mary, or Maria, last name started with a C is watching over me. My deceased mother's name if Rosemarie Causing (Maiden Name). I was stunned! During the filming of the semi-documentary 'Ghost Girls', Shannon and Nancy walked into the home, discussed the history of the home, sat on the antique seance table and Nancy described her experiences in the house. Nancy discussed how she once sat on a couch and it levitated 3 feet into the air with her on it and came crashing down. Nancy describes the portal near her huge steel safe. She also laughs and says that if a burglar were to get into the safe, the burglar will find only dog food! While the documentary is going on, I walk around Nancy's home with my Listen Up device, that enhances sound. Cherie Vincent showed me how this device works and I was surprised at all of the sounds I was able to pick up, I could hear Nancy's cat scratching the window screen from 200 feet away. At one time, I thought I heard whispers, but I don't know if it was Shannon whispering or Nancy whispering. I will have to test this device out further. Cherie used this device on stage at the Woodland Opera House and heard someone say "hey" two times. In the documentary as Chris Grissom and Robert Reppert did their camera work, I played the lackey for Shannon, following her around and handing her instruments that she requested for her ghost hunting. Robert directed the documentary and did an extraordinary job to get his vision of how everything should look for the video. You can purchase the DVD "Ghost Girls" at www.NancyBradely.org it should be available in early October, 2007.
As I left Nancy's home, I could only imagine what other fantastic stories Nancy could tell me. I look at Shannon and Chris and tell them..."we have to come back". Shannon assures me with her words..."yes, Paul, we will, we will."

Haunting in Oak Park and a Haunting Revisit to West Sacramento
By Paul Dale (The Earl of HPI) Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter
Edited by Shannon (The Empress of HPI) McCabe aka Ms. Macabre
Today is Thursday, September 6, 2007 and I am cruising down Franklin Blvd in my Ghost Tracker vehicle to pick up Shannon 'Ms. Macabre' McCabe. We are both going to rendezvous with Tim Hawkins, Lead Investigator, Lou Paman (Paranormal Investigator in Training) and Dee Pizarro (Paranormal Investigator in Training) at a home in Oak Park. We knew we had the right house, because we saw Tim's vehicle known as The Blue Orb.
Shannon and I, were met with warm greetings from Martin Purtill and Dawn Parmeter who reside in this home, that was possibly built in the 1930s. Dawn with her bright smile brought out cut-up watermelon, Chai tea, cherry tomatoes and home made chocolate chip cookies for the investigators. Martin and Dawn explained to us there has been a lot of activity in this home. Most of the activity happens in the storage house out back. There is some activity in the barn, that is also located out back. Martin lead the investigators into the backyard area and I went partially into the storage house. The atmosphere inside this storage house is weird, that is the only way I can explain it. I felt a tingling sensation on my arms. I decided to go ahead and start taking some digital photos. The very first photo, I obtain some orb activity in the photo. The 2nd and 3rd photos, there is no orb activity. Then if I were given a stack of bibles, I will swear that with my peripheral vision, I saw a darting shadow move across the lawn. Okay, there is something going on at this house!
The occupants have told me that they have witnessed moving shadows and feeling weird energy in the storage house. Dawn stated that at times she feels she is being watched from the window of the barn. Dawn and Martin have felt constant cold spots in different areas of their home and in the backyard. Dawn once felt a presence walk up behind her, which gave her cold chills throughout her body. She describes how the storage house always seems damp, dark and muggy. She explains to me that at one time she was shocked to see the fan start moving and go into full speed and it was unplugged! Martin has seen their cats Jasper and Booger start hissing at empty space, there was nothing to be hissing about, but yet there they were hissing at something that Dawn and Martin could not see! Martin can't explain it, but he felt the presence of what he believed was a male spirit. One day, Martin dug up a chimney in the backyard and now he wonders if there was another house in this location. Martin tells me that his parents once owned this house and the activity has been going on from day one. Legend has it that the man that built this house, built it for his wife and that his wife died in this house. Of course, theory is that the wife and husband are the spirits that reside in this home. Martin relates to me, that one of the strangest incidents is when a small TV in the backroom, that was unplugged came on and there was the distinctive 'white noise'. They heard people talking through the TV set. The people were carrying on a conversation and at times it was inaudible. It almost sounded like a radio signal of some sort, because the word 'emergency' was heard.
Shannon and I, couldn't stay for the full investigation, because we both had to get up early for work the next day. When I got home from this investigation at Oak Park, I discovered that when I took a picture in the kitchen area, I got a strong white line or streak on the left hand side of the photo, the 2nd photo was a normal photo. Could this have been a vortex of some kind? Then an outdoor shot I took, there is what appears to be a fast moving bright orb, I call it the 'lightning orb'. There is some strange activity at the Oak Park home.
Before we go onto the West Sac haunting, I must tell you some exciting news of upcoming events by H.P.I. (Haunted and Paranormal Investigations) of Northern California!
On September 19, 2007 - many HPI members will be headed over to Sierra 2 Center, Room 11 and we have a special guest. His name is Dave Greenwood, a certified hypnotherapist and he is going to do a hypnosis session on HPI! Somehow, Jennifer Baca, paranormal investigator got this session set up for us! Thanks Jennifer! This should be fun, I always wanted to bark like a dog and jump around the desk chairs like an orangutan without any repuccusions over it!
Be on the lookout for a future article I will be writing on our September 22, 2007, Tommy Netzband Haunted Haight Walking Tour of San Francisco! Tommy Netzband is the Founder and President of the San Francisco Ghost Society. Yep, the HPI team, a whole army of us equipped with digital audio recorders, video cameras, dowsing rods, temperature gauges will be heading up to San Francisco for a full blown investigation of such things as The Lady of Stow Lake. Tommy will show us all of the haunted areas of San Francisco! We are going to all meetup at the San Francisco Public Library. Then some of us will attend the workshop classes. The classes are: Ghost Photography by Sharon Leong; Releasing Spirit Energies from Homes by Leon LeGant; Understanding Dowsing Rods by Ann Leong and Investigating Ghost Towns of Northern California by no other than Ms. Macabre aka Shannon McCabe! Afterwards, the exciting part is actually going on a tour with Tommy Netzband and getting a feel of the paranormal that resides throughout San Francisco. Tommy is going to show us not only haunted areas of San Francisco, but also some of the places infamous cult leaders resided at. This is something I am familiar with, because I once had an article published in the Sacramento Bee about my investigations into cults, such as the Hare Krishna, The Peoples' Temple, The Church of Satan and The Church of Scientology. When I investigated these cults, most of the investigations took place right in San Francisco! The workshops and tour are sponsored by SFGS (San Francisco Ghost Society). Let me tell you, I am looking forward to the Tommy Netzband Haunted Haight Walking Tour! This is something you don't want to miss out on!
Another cool thing HPI is doing is a video documentary called 'Ghost Girls' featuring Shannon McCabe and psychic Nancy Bradley! This is a documentary that you should have on your paranormal reference shelves! More to come on this project!
Now let's take a drive across town and head over to one of the most haunted houses in the Sacramento County area. A house in an undisclosed location. A location in West Sacramento, the date is September 7, 2007, Friday. Below is an email from one of the occupants, this is what she says in the email:
"By the way, Margaret (one of the spirits of the home-Paul) finally spoke in one of the recordings! She gives us her nickname, "Genaphue". I am soooo stoked. I also got the Native American. He says "Pokai!" which is actually a word from a Maori myth. Look it up on the Internet. So maybe he's not a Native American, but an Islander?
I'll play all the EVPs for you guys this Friday if you want. (Occupant does her own internal investigations and provides HPI with the information she discovers-Paul). You won't believe what happened last Friday!
The kitchen light went out when we (she is referring to HPI investigators who were there for a pre-investigation-Paul) were all standing in there! And no one was next to the light switch. It was not a power outage because none of the other lights or electrical appliances were affected, none of the clocks started blinking, answering machine did not go off, etc. Plus a pair of footprints appeared in a puddle of urine after everyone left, my dogs have not pee'd in the house in a long, long time and it was odd for them to urinated in the house like that. I asked all of the investigators to do a foot print test to ensure that the prints were not from any of their shoes, and it did not match ANY of them, the prints were nearly 12 inches long! They looked like they were from cowboy boots. Of course, it didn't match my shoes or my partner's shoes either.
We also got at least 7 EVPs, I haven't gone through all my digital recordings, so there may be more. Some of the EVPs are very clear. Then early Monday morning my partner and I awoke to the sound of something heavy moving across the floor, it sounded like a piece of furniture dragging on the floor. We could not figure out what it was. So it looks like things are definitely picking up during the renovation."
Before I arrive this Friday night, I must tell you, I have been here before. This home has a vortex in which entities seem to come in and out. Could a vortex be some kind of interdimensional hyperspace in which time and space doesn't exist? Perhaps events happen synchronistically (at the same time) and it's a level higher than an astral plane. Just my thoughts on the matter. Who knows.
Since there is so much activity at this West Sac home. HPI had an investigation on August 31st, in which paranormal investigators Michel Paykel, Chris Grissom, Shannon McCabe, Mary Casiano, John Wachter aka Vlawde and Alicia Perry did the first initial investigation. Shannon witnessed a magnetized plastic 'Y' on the dish washer slide down on its own. Chris Grissom picks up an EVP that says 'hamster'. The EVP was said in an English accent, by a woman that the occupants call Annabelle. At one point of time, John pointed at his toe, because it ached and the entity said 'it's hurt.' Shannon was working on a laptop and mentioned something about Yahoo and the EVP said "Look at Yahoo, big sucking Yahoo!". The voice sounded mean spirited. Then the next EVP sounded like either Darth Vader or some demon from hell, it actually growled and then said "just move the light!"
After this initial investigation, we had a pre-investigation in which Shannon, Alicia, Mary and I went into the home. We tested a few things out during the day and recorded one EVP, in which I asked the entity..."do you love me?" I was just joking around and the entity (a female's voice) said "enough!".
This Friday night, the paranormal investigators were: Alicia Perry - Lead Investigator/Tech Expert, Jennifer Baca - Scout, Kristen Shelly - Researcher, Holly DeLaughter - Investigator in Training, Mary Casiano - Tech Expert, Paul Dale Roberts - Ghost Writer, Chris Grissom- Investigator , Brian Colbert - Photography Expert, Cherie Vincent - Scout.
While we were at the home, Mary feels a tapping on her shoulder. Cherie Vincent felt something tugging at her hair. I asked the entity to make a noise and I get a crumpling sound next to my right ear. We took digital photos throughout the house and in the backyard. We got a lot of orb shots. One orb that Cherie took, seem to have a face inside the orb itself. The face looked like an old man. One digital photo I took, was a large red orb. Kristen Shelly took some unusual large orb pictures. One orb seemed to be attaching itself to Chris Grissom's face. Kristen took a picture of what appeared to be a pink orb. Cherie took a picture of an orb hovering over the house. Holly DeLaughter, a sensitive feels a male presence and she thinks he is saying that his name is either Jeb or Jed. He seems to favor tools. I asked Holly how she became a sensitive and she was involved in a head on car accident at the age of 4 and her awareness of the paranormal began. She thinks the accident may have been the cause or that it runs in the family. She told me that 4 generations of women in her family have been sensitives. A few times we asked the entity or entities to make their presence known and there seemed to be knockings on the walls. We set up the TV monitor and saw a dazzling array of orbs flying here and there, zipping past investigator's faces and at times seemed like the orbs were sitting on some of the investigator's laps.
The occupants of this residence knew we had a long night ahead and had chips and salsa, angel food cake, sodas waiting for us. We did a lot of EVP work at this 3rd investigation of this home and I am waiting on Alicia's results. During the investigation, I learned that Holly is a hynotherapist and works part time for psychic Sylvia Browne. Holly did a scouting mission on the USS Hornet and took some very unusual photos and received a lot of EVPs during this scouting mission.
Jennifer Baca was very excited, she is doing a 'lone wolf' scouting mission to Alcatraz Island at night! It was Jen's birthday and I got her a ceramic fairy and Cherie gave her a ceramic gargoyle to remind her of the investigation she did at the Martinez House. Happy Birthday to Jennifer and also learned it will soon be Holly's birthday, so happy birthday Holly too! All in all this was a fun investigation.
Now I feel like rambling off on some other subjects. Investigations into the paranormal has been going on for a long time. A very long time. Let's take a step back into time. Majic 12 (government sponsored) was investigating UFOs. The Nazis were investigating UFOs and were involved in The Bell Project. Let's not forget the Philadelphia Experiment in which the government actually made a US destroyer escort ship, the USS Eldridge disappear for a brief amount of time. It supposingly teleported during the time it was rendered invisible to another location miles away. When the green fog engulfed the ship rendering it invisible, some of the crew men were fused into the ships walls. So, it appears our own government has been involved with the paranormal. I won't even discuss 'remote viewing', which is a very recent government sponsored project. But, like I said before, paranormal investigating has been done for a long time. The Philadelphia Experiment occurred on October 28, 1943. Perhaps we have always been fascinated by the paranormal, because the paranormal has been part of mankind since the dawning of man. The African Dogons who never were influenced by other cultures claimed that they were visited by extraterrestials from Sirius. Egyptians and Summerians believed they were also visited by beings from Sirius and had no contact with the African Dogons. Then there is the story that the beings of Sirius may have interacted with humans and created ancient high tech civilizations such as Atlantis, Lemuria and of course the Continent of Mu (Motherhood of Man).
That is why HPI doesn't turn a blind eye on any type of paranormal investigation. We seek knowledge, this is why we are doing the Mt. Shasta Bigfoot/UFO/Lemurian Pre-Investigation on October 13, 2007, in which I will be the lead investigator for this project. We are ready to investigate anything and everything paranormal. If you wanted us to investigate the Orang-bati (batlike predatory cryptic from Indonesia) or the Agratbat Mahlat (demon known as the Angel of Prostitutes) or the Ferla Mohr (20 foot gray furred gorilla of the Scottish Highlands) or the Emela-ntouka (killer of elephants) and the Ahool (bat creature of Java).....let's just say...'we're there!'
That wraps this article up.....well, there is one more thing. Psss...come over here, let me tell you what I did on Saturday night, September 8, 2007. I get a call from a Wiccan named Donna Reynolds and she tells me that the Sacred Fire Circle is camping out by Negro Bar and that I am invited over for dinner and watch some of their rituals. Why not? It's Saturday night, I have no investigations going on and witches are part of the paranormal. Off I went to Negro Bar, they were singing chants around a bonfire. Belisama Fire is the Lady of the Circle and she tells me I must attend one of their festivals, to get a feel of the Wiccan culture. Just think, when I was driving up here, I was remembering the movie 'The Wicker Man' with Nicolas Cage. One of the witches was teasing me and said.."yes, you have to go to the festival, you'll make a great sacrifice!" Donna was telling me that earlier they went on an herb walk through the woods and collected a variety of herbs. Last night, the witches of this coven jumped on tables, because a rattlesnake violated their campsite. Donna chased the rattlesnake away. At the campsite, I met a green parrot, that is a mascot for the Sacred Fire Circle. The parrot was quite the character. When they sing Bardic songs, it helps to build up positive energy. One of the songs was 'We All Come From the Goddess'. Later on this evening, they would meditate, to release negative energy and it's suppose to have a healing effect for your mental and physical health. Now, I am done! I will write more about the Sacred Fire Circle, when I climb the wooden wicker man at one of their festivals...well, maybe I am being too over dramatic. But, there will be more to come!

Interview with a Witch: The Donna Reynolds Story
By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter
Edited by Shannon 'Ms. Macabre' McCabe
I waited in an area that had a picnic bench with a clump of trees for my interview with a real witch. The area was somewhat remote and I looked around and saw nothing around me. Then I heard some birds chirping and from a clearing at this park, a mysterious woman in black appeared out of nowhere and started walking towards me. She said..."hi, I'm Donna, I'm your witch." I looked at Donna and said.."step in my office and let's do this interview, have a seat." As I pointed at the park bench table. Donna relates to me that she has been interested in the Wiccan culture since the time she was in high school. Her screen name is a Gaelic name, it's Badb. Badb is named after the Celtic goddess Badb Catha, she may take on the name of Badb as her permanent craft name, but hasn't decided yet. The circle she belongs to is Sacred Fire Circle, which is having it's Sacramento Mabon Celebration 2007, it will be an open circle and everyone is invited. They will conduct a leaf burning ceremony, to release negativity into the atmosphere. Each member and guest will receive an acorn, which represents future harvests.
Donna's Encounter with the Thor: The Norse God of Thunder:
Donna tells me that she became a practicing witch in 2003, she has extensively studied the Wiccan culture and embraced it full heartedly. She will never forget the time, that she was with a group of Wiccans and they were singing chant songs to the God Thor. The Lady of the Circle named Belisama Fire lead the group into chant. The more they chanted, the night became stormy. The presence of Thor was felt and all of a sudden, it started to rain in buckets, the heavy winds blew wildly and the tarp that gave them shelter blew to the ground. When the chanting resided, everything went back to normal. They later learned that there was no other storm anywhere else, the storm only hit the location of where the Circle was at.
Donna Joins HPI:
Donna has recently joined H.P.I. (Haunted and Paranormal Investigations) of Northern California, as a Paranormal Investigator and went on their 2007 Haunted Placerville Tour (haunting investigation). When going on this tour, Donna was surprised to feel a wall of energy at one of the locations she visited on this tour. But, this is not the first time Donna has dealt with the paranormal, she has been plagued by the paranormal since the age of 16. When Donna first contacted me, to write her story (an occurrence that happened in the Fall of 1972 in Niceville, Florida), she sent me this in her own words:
"I lived in a double-wide mobile home for four years with my parents in a mobile home park on Eglin Air Force Base near the Gulf Coast of Florida when I was in high school. At that time, if the military member was sent overseas for a short tour, the family had to move off-base until the member's return.
When my father received orders for a one-year stint in Thailand in the early 1970's, we moved the mobile home to Niceville, a small town near the base. My parents bought an unimproved lot and had trees taken down, electricity put in, a septic tank installed, and whatever else needed to improve this piece of property. Within a very few weeks, my father was off to Thailand and my mother and I lived in the mobile home alone.
I was in Georgia on a high school band trip when my parents made the actual move. I got home around 10:00 PM a couple of days later. My room was not set up yet, so my mother got me a pillow and blanket and set me up on the couch in the living room. That night, my first night in this home, my sleep was disturbed my multiple noises - mostly knocking on the wall and the sound of footsteps. I'd been in a similar situation when I was very young, and for some reason did not feel afraid. I just said out loud, "Please let me go to sleep!" and the noises stopped.
The next day I was in the backyard exploring. I have always loved nature and became interested in a line of ants traveling across the yard. I found their nest and squatted on my haunches to look at them. I suddenly felt a hand on my back and was pushed forward to the point where I had to put my hands out in front of me to catch myself from falling on my face. I told my parents about it and they just laughed at me. Nothing else happened for several weeks, except once when I was pushed again, this time in my bedroom while my father was putting some shelves together for me. When I was pushed, I nearly fell on top of him.
For the year and a half that my mother and I lived in the home, there were many incidents where we heard knocking on the walls, footsteps, sobbing (from my room), bad smells like something had died, light fixtures coming on by themselves when they weren't plugged in, a fire-ant invasion in my mother's toilet, shadows in the window, a blob of gray mist hanging beneath the ceiling, the sound of water dripping (the drops sounded like they were falling from a height not possible where the sound was coming from), light switch sounds but no lights going on or off, my name being called, cold spots, a feeling of not being alone - and even a full-figure apparition on one occasion of a very petite or young female with a long dress and lots of hair piled up on her head - much like the ladies wore in the Civil War era. These events became more and more frequent as time went on.
We also had other family members that visited during this time and they, too, had experiences. The interesting fact about all of this, is that none of them, including my father, shared their experiences with my mother or me for fear of scaring us. My uncle and my grandfather visited together once, and didn't share their experiences with either of us or each other. It was only years later that my family, including my father shared their experiences with my mother and I. We were all in awe of the fact that we had all had separate experiences that were collaborated years after the fact.
We eventually sold the place because my father received orders for Travis AFB near Fairfield, CA. We had no idea about any problems at the site since then. We know that the mobile home we put there is gone and there is another in its place. That's the extent of my knowledge of these experiences at the time of this writing.
The only information I have to offer right now is that Niceville, FL, was at one time a very small fishing village. The lot we lived on was very near the water. We can only surmise that at one time there either was a settlement of some sort or maybe a homestead on or near the property my parents bought.
Below are added comments from Donna, as she relates to experiences she had in her present home in Rancho Cordova:
"Once, while I was home alone I was sitting in the den watching TV when I heard my name called. I was sitting on a couch that was in front of a large window, and the voice sounded like it came from outside, through the window behind me. I couldn't tell if it was male or female because it was almost a whisper, but not quite. It just said, "Donna".
Another time, my mother, a family friend name Eunice, her two teenage children, Sue and Jim, my friend from next door, Debbie, and I were all sitting outside in the backyard having a good time. Sue, Debbie, and I decided to go next door to Debbie’s house for a while. Debbie and I walked around the back end of the house, through the front yard, out the gate at the front (hitch) end and to the road. At the road we had to double back the other direction as Debbie’s house was next to the back end of mine, causing us to travel the length of the front of my house toward hers. In the meantime, Sue went inside through the back door near the end of the house to use the bathroom. I go into such detail to illustrate the time it took for us to make the trip vs. the time it took Sue to reach the bathroom. It was starting to get dark and the lights were on in the living room and the curtains were drawn. When Debbie and I reached the road we both, for some reason, looked toward the house and we both saw a shadow of a male figure in the curtains of the living room window. As we watched, the figure moved out of the window, in the direction of the back of the house where the back door and bathroom were. We both ran to her house and told her mother what we had just witnessed. As we were finishing our story, Sue came in looking very white. She said that while she was in the bathroom, she heard footsteps coming from the living room area of the house and walking toward the back. Time-wise, it was exactly at the same time that Debbie and I saw the shadow.
Once, coincidentally while I was living at that home, my boyfriend and I had just returned from a date and were standing in the driveway when we both saw what we thought was a UFO. It was a reddish light that just stood very still in the night sky and finally just vanished after a few minutes. Also, one dark, moonless night my mother and I were driving south on Sunrise Blvd. here in Rancho, somewhere between the American River and Folsom Blvd. when we saw some kind of ship fly toward us from our right. It made a large sweep over us and turned back in the direction from which it came, and flew off. It was huge and the lights were in an elongated triangle pattern. It did have blinking lights but was either too large or too close to be an airplane - it was too dark to tell. If I were to hold my hands out at arms length to describe how much windshield space it took up, I would have to hold my hands about three feet apart!"
Donna believes she is an empath and her whole family is a magnet for the supernatural. From the time she was 16 and up to the age of 17, she lived in a mobile home in Niceville. She experienced ghostly encounters, as mentioned above in her blurb. I discuss what she wrote to me about her experiences and ask Donna was there anything else that was unusual. She said, one day her dad walked into a room and it was filled with smoke. Her dad thought it was a fire and when he looked again, the smoke was gone. On another night, family and friends felt an icy cold presence move through the home. Donna's ex-boyfriend on another night noticed the flashlight dimming on its own, then the lights in the home came on for no apparent reason. Donna always felt presences at this home and she wonders if the small fishing village that once was on this property had anything to do with the presences of this home.
Donna goes on to tell me that 2/3rds of her life has been experiences of the paranormal. She has seen ghost animals, a luring ghost cat. She once saw a ghostly hand move the shower curtain. She has seen 'shadow people' move about the house. Once while laying in bed, she felt someone sitting on the bed and it caused an indentation on the bed. All through her life from her grandmother's home in Pocahontas, Virginia to the Mobile Home in Niceville, Florida to Castle AFB (at this AFB housing community, she witnessed the animal spirits, the entity that sat on her bed and the shadow people) to her present home in Rancho Cordova where there are at times poundings on her walls. Donna feels that her family attract entities from the other side and her connection to the Wiccan culture goes back as far as to her grandmother, who was known as "Grannie".
Perhaps entities that dwell in the realm of the supernatural are attracted to Earth people known as Wiccans, because Wiccans embrace nature and respect the Earth. The Earth and nature is filled with energy and the harmonious nature of energy embraces the Wiccan culture and brings on energy entities to watch over them and to protect them. Donna is a unique young lady and she is filled with stories of her encounters with the supernatural. So many stories, that it would fill a good size book. I am honored to write a small piece of her life, because I have met a woman who is one with nature. As she departed into the surrounding area of trees, I felt a small gentle breeze go with her.

The Goathead Demon Banished! The Sally Howard Story.
By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter
"I See Dead People" is the famous line from Sixth Sense. I do believe there are psychics, sensitives or if you want to call them intuitives that exist in this world. Of course, there are a lot of fraudulent psychics that eye only one thing and that is all mighty dollar sign. A real sensitive will assist others in a time of need and do not ask payment for their services. This Sunday, August 19, 2007, I would meet up with a real sensitive. Her name is Sally Howard. She has been aware of presences throughout her whole life. I gave Shannon 'Ms. Macabre' McCabe, President of H.P.I. (Haunted and Paranormal Investigations) of Northern California a call and briefed her about my upcoming meeting with Sally. Shannon was quite intrigued and told me to find out her story. I called Shannon on Saturday, while she was conducting the 2nd Tour of Haunted Places in Placerville. She had a good turn out with 33 members showing up. Her core members: Michele Stump, Jennifer Baca, Cherie Vincent, John Wachter aka Vlawde and Michelle Paykel were ready and willing to assist Shannon throughout this full day tour. Shannon told me that when she met up with everyone at the 400 Main Street Parking Garage, the HPI members were eagerly waiting for the tour to start! From the enthusiasm in Shannon's voice, I could tell everyone was having a blast, but my thoughts were about the sensitive I would meet on Sunday. Why is it that some people can sense ghosts, while people like myself can't? Yes, I have seen a full body apparition with my own eyes, I have been touched by an entity, but it's not because I am a sensitive, I was just fortunate to see and feel these entities after 40 some investigations into the paranormal.
As I drove over to Shari's Restaurant in Greenhaven to meet up with Sally Howard, I was greeted with a big smile. Sally has a long story and it seems like ghosts have followed her throughout her whole life. It appears that Sally's whole family may be intuitive and that the deceased members of her family come to visit often. Let's start from the beginning and follow Sally's life to her present day home in Greenhaven.
Home in Cleveland, Ohio:
When Sally Howard stayed in Cleveland, she would visit with her sister a lot. Her sister was obsessed with the movie The Exorcist and carried around The Exorcist book with her at all times. Her sister dabbled with the Ouija Board and she also felt like she had a psychic connection with Sally. Sally noticed that her sister's personality started changing. It had seemed that her sister was becoming meaner. One night Sally experienced the bed that she was lying on moving. Another night, Sally hears a gun go off, she runs into her sister's room and learns later that her sister for no apparent reason fired that gun. When asked initially why she fired it, she had said that she accidentally fired the gun, her sister later confesses to her that she fired the gun purposely, but didn't understand why she fired it. Sally's sister started becoming more macabre as there was now a sculptured snake and a dagger displayed in the house. Then the final night that Sally stayed with her sister, the most strangest thing occurred. Sally was sitting on the couch, she was paralyzed, unable to move, she looks towards her sister's room and sees an odd man-beast. An entity with the body of a man and a head of a goat. This goat head demon then slithers to the floor and starts crawling. Sally starts praying in her mind and the man-beast vanishes. When Sally relates this story to me, she is filled with positive energy. Perhaps it was her robust positive energy that vanquished the negative energy of this creature. She never encountered the entity again, but she has never been back to her sister's house again either.
Home in Pittsburg, California:
Sally is visited by her 10 year old deceased cousin, that appears like an angelic figure to her. Sally is lying on her bed and for no apparent reason falls off the bed, she looks up and her 10 year old cousin is looking down at her. It almost appears that her deceased family members watch over Sally and perhaps they are the ones that keep the goat head demon at bay. Perhaps Sally was pushed off the bed by some negative unseen force? Sally believes that her deceased Aunt Lorraine once jabbed her on the leg, causing her leg to bleed. Sally was talking somewhat negatively about her aunt Lorraine and shortly afterward she felt the jab on her leg. Aunt Lorraine was sort of an oddfellow, she had one long toe nail, which became a family conversation piece. Could it have been Aunt Lorraine's toenail that jabbed Sally in her leg?
Grandmother's Home in Pennsylvania:
Sally said that her grandmother's home is definitely haunted. The old furnace shutter door constantly opens and shuts on its own accord. The dining room light switch would come off and on. Silverware around the house is always being moved around or repositioned. Uncle Bobbie, who is deceased makes his presence known in the house. Her Uncle 'Happy' aka Harold was once visited by his deceased ex-wife that stood on the side of his bed watching him. Uncle Happy appears to be a sensitive because he will never forget seeing the ghostly presence of two twins that appeared before him, looking down at him from the top of the stairs. The two twins he finds out died in a fire in that home.
Home on V Street in Sacramento:
While Sally stayed at her home on V Street, her grandmother astrally projected herself to Sally's home. Sally saw her grandmother fully dressed and she just peered at Sally. Sally's grandmother was alive at this period of time. Another night Sally had her family come over and the brass lamps were turning off and on by themselves. The neighbor heard footsteps on the stairwell and there was no one there. When the occurrences happened, Sally felt something telling her that it was only her deceased father trying to communicate with her. A lot of strange happenings occurred at this V Street apartment, even some outside influences happened here. One day a frantic neighbor came over and told her that he was cursed by the Oakdale Witch, he went to use Sally's restroom and an unseen force pushes him into Sally's bathtub. The neighbor felt it was the Oakdale Witch that caused him to be pushed into the bathtub, because he constantly ridiculed this residential witch. During Christmas time in her home on V Street, she snapped a picture of her two children by the Christmas tree and a fast moving orb was captured on her regular camera.
Home on 26th Street in Sacramento:
While Sally lived at this location, she was constantly being harassed by the Church of Scientology members. They were trying to persuade Sally to join their cult. After being mentally exhausted hearing the ranting of the Scientologists, she went to bed and instantly started astral projecting...leaving her body, when all of a sudden there was a loud banging on the door, she went back into her body and looked to see who was knocking, only to discover that there was no one at her door. When Sally was telling me this story, her daughter calls her on her cell, only to tell her that the microwave almost blew up. Sally says that it's weird, but when she relates her stories, sometimes bad things start happening and here was a good example of that.
Home in Greenhaven:
When Sally was merely dating her ex-husband, she would have her ex-husband sleep in her son's room. Her ex-husband had a spectacular evening one night in Sally's son's room when he woke up to see an entity standing over him, watching him. He had a hard time getting the image out of his mind. One day, he was looking through Sally's photo albums and came across the entity that was looking over him. It was Sally's grandfather! When he saw the picture, he looked as white as a sheet and yelled out..."That's him, that's him! That's the ghost that was looking down at me!"
Sally has felt the presence of her grandfather, she has even smelled his scent in the house. Another odd thing that occurred in this home is one night at 2am, the whole bedroom lighted up. Her bedroom was as bright as sunshine and Sally actually got scared. When she felt scared the light in her bedroom diminished and everything went back to normal.
Sally still is being watched in this Greenhaven home, at times she hears a penny drop for no apparent reason and one night her deceased grandmother held her hand, while she laid in bed.
I felt like a prosecutor as I repeatedly would ask certain questions over again. I was looking for any inconsistencies in Sally's stories. There was none, all of the stories were reiterated again as if the stories were playing back on a cassette tape. Sally has an amazing life and when I was sitting next to her, it's almost like her aura engulfs my own aura. I could feel this surge of positive energy engulfing my own energy. Before, I met up with Sally, I was still tired from a block party I attended last night with my romance novelist friend Gloria Ramos, in which there was a large assortment of food, live music, jacuzzi retreat and every kind of drink under-the-sun. When they had the joke contest at this block party, I went up and told two of my best jokes and won a huge patio umbrella. This block party lasted late into the evening and I still felt drained on Sunday, when I met up with Sally. But, as we sat together and I wrote her story, her energy seemed to boost my own energy, there was something definitely different about Sally and I believe it's because she is an intuitive. I can only wish I could see with her eyes, because this is one woman that has a foot in our own reality and another foot into the world of the paranormal.
As I finished this story, I got a call from Michele Stump, HPI Researcher. Michele is looking into the possible residual hauntings of 25 victims of serial killers Leonard Lake and Charles Ng in Calaveras County. Michele asks..."are you up for this investigation?" My answer...."why not?" How odd, that I would get a phone call about this investigation, because I had just finished watching the movie with Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale, called 'Vacancy', which is loosely based on the Leonard Lake/Charles Ng murders. There are always an abundance of investigations with HPI, my job is never done.

HPI Chronicles: An American Werewolf in Fremont - The Mundane
By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter
Before I encountered my third werewolf. The first ones being Lolita Moonshadow and Katrina Kanine, in which I have already written about, I will tell you what I did September 30, 2007, Sunday. I went to Nancy Bradley's (Psychic to the Stars) office (called the Haunted Cottage) to film Ghost Girls. I brought paranormal investigator Chris Grissom with me and we met up with the Ghost Girls themselves...Shannon 'Ms. Macabre' McCabe and Nancy Bradley! Nancy and her husband Robert Reppert treated us to a lavish Mexican dinner at Casa Romos Restaurant. Robert Repport, Paranormal Investigator for Gold Rush Ghosts took us to about 5 family cemeteries in Placerville, where we took pictures of Shannon & Nancy at various gravesites for the upcoming DVD 'Ghost Girls'. In one of the cemeteries I turned on my Listen Up - sound enhancer device and picked up a small girl saying 3 inaudible words. Nancy determined it was a small girl named Betty Carlton, age 5 years old. When I was leaving this local Placerville cemetery, it was as if the little phantom girl didn't want me to leave and she said a distinct 'hey!' After we filmed in Nancy's office and I was heading home, Nancy gave me her book 'The Incredible World of Gold Rush Ghosts (The Big Picture) by Nancy Bradley & Robert Reppert and signed it "To Paul, My New Partner in Crime - Blessings to my friend Nancy Bradley 2007." What a sweet lady and I will cherish her book forever! Make sure to pick up the DVD Ghost Girls, for more information, check out Nancy's website at: www.nancybradley.org
Now to the werewolf I was talking about! Meet The Mundane. This is the name that our werewolf girl calls herself. I met her at Starbucks in Vallejo. She drove up from Fremont and I drove down from Sacramento, we met half way. I have never seen The Mundane before, but I was able to spot her out easily. She wore cat ears head band, a pentagram ring and a black T-shirt that read 'Live Animal'. Not hard to find at all. She was busy drawing, this 21 year old girl can draw as good as Boris Vallejo. She displayed some of her wonderful fantasy artwork. This is her story. About 4 years ago, she was bit by a mountain lion while doing voluntary work at the San Diego Zoo. The male mountain lion was playing with her at first and had her arm in his mouth, then he got rough and actually bit her. The Mundane tells me that everyone has an animal spirit within their being and when she got bit, it brought out her wolflike attributes that she was born with. She tells me she even knows a were-moose. When she got bit that day, the essence of the wolf took over her persona. It possessed her. She tells me that she is friends with a were-panther named Cassandra, that has actual bat wings attached to her back. She tells me that it's rare for werewolves to really transform and that she can't transform at all.
The Mundane says that on the energy plane anything is possible and that includes living fire-breathing dragons. She said that she has heightened senses, such as hearing, smell, eyesight and even the sense of touch. She can feel the fluctuations around a person's body. When she became a werewolf, the hairs on her arms became dark. She pulls up her pants leg and displays a whole lot of hair on her legs. The Mundane was born and raised a Catholic, but has embraced the Pagan beliefs. She craves meat, has eaten raw meat, but mostly orders medium rare steaks. During a full moon, her senses sky rocket in intensity. This happens the day before a full moon, during the full moon and after a full moon. Three nights of sensationally heightened senses. She tells me that silver cannot harm her, but she has heard that silver can cause an allergic reaction to some werewolves. She doesn't like to be in enclosed spaces. She lives a normal working life as a hostess at the Olive Garden, she has a boyfriend and her boyfriend is not 'awakened', but he is also a werewolf. None of her relatives are werewolves. She tells me that she believes in the afterlife, she listens to Celtic, country and blues music. She loves to hunt and she will hunt deer with a long bow. She adores animals and will help animals, she has been known to take in stray dogs. Vultures, any bird of prey, ravens and crows follow her around. She is also a 'falconer', she is able to hunt with falcons. She displays no canine teeth. She tells me that she knows a few vampires (energy and physical vampires) and that werewolves and vampires are not mortal enemies as Hollywood would like you to believe. She has gone to a vampire club and she wasn't welcome. This was just the way the club treated her, not because they didn't like werewolves. To pass time, she at times plays Dungeons & Dragons, Masquerade and Werewolf Apocalypse. She tells me how she first learned about HPI, through one of my articles on my scouting mission with Athena Quinn to Sutter's Fort. She is very familiar with Sutter's Fort and the church nearby where we found some EVP evidence. She explains to me that she is a slight empath and that when she lived in Sacramento on 50/Bradshaw, she would hear noises at night and the lights turned on randomly on their own. At her friend's house in Sacramento, there was an explosion heard in the house and when she investigated the explosion with her friend, they discovered a plastic mug had shattered into 5 pieces for no apparent reason. She elaborates more on how she loves animals and fondly talks about her black Labrador retriever named Brutus Maximus. She calls Brutus, her baby. One of the psychic abilities that she has is being able to know when her friends will call her or visit with her, before it happens. Her sixth sense ability seems to be centered on her closest associates. Her favorite movies are Van Helsing, American Werewolf in Paris, she even loved the werewolves that were featured in Harry Potter and Dr. Who. During a full moon, she is more sexually aroused.
Here is the strange part of my interview, I learn that certain entities inhabit her body. They are Isis the Dragon, Dartanian the Raptor (yep, a dinosaur inhabits her body), Thane the Chinese Dragon - Protector of the 4th Tower, Kata the Demon - which is in the form of a black spectral tiger. She has a Phoenix named Moonshadow (no relation to Lolita Moonshadow) that is her guardian. She has learned to write in ancient pagan runes. I got curious and asked her what animal spirit inhabits my body? She said it was a raccoon, because of my journalistic curiosity. Before I left, she asked if HPI could investigate two areas that she has frequented, the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz and some overgrown weed infested cemetery in Fremont. I explained to her that I have been to the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz and found the place....mysterious, especially when balls roll up hill and trees grow to a slant. I have always theorized that The Mystery Spot is a point of origin for a leyline, but that is only my theory. When I visited the Mystery Spot, I also stopped over for a tour of the Winchester Mansion....I love that place!
I will be enclosing drawings that The Mundane showed me, some of the drawings are the entities that inhabit her body, some are drawings of her were friends and some are just drawings from her mind. The white wolf is called Ghost, that is the essence of the wolf that now inhabits her body.
Being a paranormal investigator, I have investigated so many things paranormal, such as a numerologist, psychics, the Wicca culture, werewolves, vampires, UFOs, cults, secret societies, ghosts, possible demon possession and I soon will be investigating the last of the Lemurians at Mt. Shasta, along with Bigfoot. I have always wanted to investigate dopplegangers, incubus, succubus, Mothmen, Men in Black, Reptilians, sea serpents, zombies and anything else considered paranormal. So for the reader reading this article, if you have something unusual you want me to check out, let's say you have a crop circle in your backyard, give me a ring. I will be there in a moment's notice, because stepping into the paranormal is my business. As I headed back to Sacramento, I threw on the song 'Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon' and 'Monster Mash by Bobby 'Boris' Pickett', you know how I like getting into the mood of things!
Special Note: The Mundane would not allow me to take her photograph or use her real name in this article. I am able to display her artwork for this article, digital photographs from her scrapbook.

Stepping Into the Dark World of The Vampire of Sacramento: Richard Trenton Chase
By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter
Edited by Shannon 'Ms. Macabre' McCabe
Special Note: All addresses are of public record as described in the book: The Dracula Killer by Lt. Ray Biondi and Walt Hecox.
Michele Stump, HPI Researcher and Paranormal Investigator sends me an email. It read: "Richard Trenton Chase was known as The Vampire of Sacramento. He killed several people in the Sacramento area. He eventually committed suicide while he was in jail. The book (The Dracula Killer by Lt. Ray Biondi and Walt Hecox) does not give a specific address of his apartment but does give a pretty clear description. His apartment was on Watt Avenue, apartment 15 one block east of 2909 Burnece Street. Murders occurred on 2630 Tioga Way (The murder of Teresa Wallin), 3734 Robertson Avenue (The murder of Ambrose Griffin), 3207 Merrywood Drive (The murder of Evelyn Miroth, Daniel Meredith, Jason Miroth (age 6), and Daniel Meredith Jr, age 2). The body of Little Daniel Meredith was found, without a head, behind a church at the corner of Watt and Whitney Ave. Hope I was of help! Michele"
It was time to give Shannon McCabe, our illustrious leader a call. There has been reports of possible residual hauntings near and around the victim's homes and possibly a haunting at the infamous Country Club Apartment Homes #15. Yes, we found his actual apartment, the home of Richard Trenton Chase. I explained to Shannon the details and that it was possibly good to get a HPI Splinter Cell Undercover Scouting Task Force to look into this matter. Shannon agreed, there is no harm in looking to see if there was a possible haunting at some of these locations. With this splinter cell, the reason why I would say this was an undercover investigation, because possibly people may live at these homes and I didn't want it to be obvious we are trying to uncover possible hauntings.
Going over the HPI membership roster, looking at photos and bios, I came up with the team of Michele Stump - HPI Researcher/Paranormal Investigator, Jennifer Baca - Scout and Paranormal Investigator and finally Cherie Vincent - Scout and Paranormal Investigator. I would be the lead investigator on this adventure. Now, that I have Charlie's Angels together for this assignment, I mean 'Paul's Angels', let's get rolling, the date is July 28, 2007, Saturday. Time 10am. I arrive at Jennifer's home and met up with Michele & Cherie. Jennifer's mom whipped me up some homemade Chow Mein. Wow! Jennifer's mom is a great cook! Jennifer and I took my car and Michele took her vehicle and she had Cherie as a passenger. Jennifer mapped out all of the locations. A trail of a serial killer. A serial killer who beheaded a child, who drank the blood from his victims, who cannibalized his victims. Richard Trenton Chase was a monster and for him to commit suicide in prison was an easy way out. Richard Trenton Chase was a mad man and started off mutilating animals and drinking the blood of animals. He graduated to the slaughter and drinking the blood of humans.
Richard Trenton Chase has a website, it reads in part:
"SACRAMENTO, California: This maniac became known as the Vampire Killer of Sacramento after a four day blood binge in January, 1978, in which he claimed six lives. Previously he had tried to inject rabbit's blood into his veins and had been institutionalized for exhibiting such strange behavior that merited the nickname "Dracula" within the hospital staff. In the hospital he complained that someone had stolen his pulmonary artery and that his head kept changing shape. Rich thought that his blood was turning into powder and that a Nazi crime syndicate that was haunting him from high school was paying his mother money to poison him. So he did what any other red-blooded American would do under such duress. He became a vampire.
A typically "disorganized" killer, Chase picked his victims randomly and left as much evidence as he could around his home and the crime scene. He drained his victim's blood, blended it with body organs and drank it to stop his own blood from turning into powder. He also took some body parts of his victims home to munch on later. It's seems that Ritchie should have never been taken off medication.
Chase moved into another apartment and began to catch and torture cats, dogs, and rabbits. He killed them to drink their blood. Sometimes he stole neighborhood pets, and he once even called a family whose dog was missing to tell them what he had done to the animal. He bought guns and started to practice with them.
Although he was on psychiatric medication, he remained unsupervised. His mother weaned him from the medications herself, deciding that he did not really need them. In 1977, the court-awarded conservatorship expired, and his parents did nothing to renew it, leaving Chase on his own."
To quickly sum up Richard Trenton Chase's life, he did the following:
1. He was suspected of weirdness at Pyramid Lake, Nevada when deputies discovered 2 rifles on his front seat and a plastic bucket with a cow liver in it.
2. He was a fan of the Hillside Strangler.
3. In his killings, he shot people, mutilated people, ate the brains of some of his victims. Such as a 22 year old victim named Teresa Wallin who was 3 months pregnant. He shot her and then mutilated her beyond recognition. He also mutilated a puppy near the Wallin home.
4. He was known to place animal feces in his mouth.
5. Some of his victims, he pulled out their intestines.
6. The 1992 movie 'Unspeakable' is based on Richard Trenton Chase.
7. The FBI still use the Chase case for the study of a disorganized serial killer.
Now, I have said a lot of gloomy stuff in this article. As we started this investigation leaving Jennifer's home, I tried to throw on some positive motivating music, so we don't have to think of the grisly acts of this madman. I threw on Sheryl Crow's All I Wanna Do. Jennifer listens half way into the song and yanks out the CD and says..."Paul, you need to get with the music, I made you a CD, listen to this!" Yes, Jennifer and I, can't agree on the music, but I must admit her CD had some good jams, so with all of the driving I was doing, we were listening to her new CD with songs like: Hot in Here - Nelly, Gettin' Jiggy Wit It - Will Smith, Promiscuous and Say it Right by Nelly Furtado, Walk on By - Sybil, Here I Come & Glamorous by Fergie, Electric Kingdom by Twilight 22, Jam on It by Newcleus, Ooh Wee by Mark Ronson, Mission Impossible Theme by Limp Bizkit, What it's Like by Everlast, Looking Through Patient Eyes by PM Dawn, Don't Let Go & Hold On by En Vogue.
Our first stop was the Robertson Avenue home, where Ambrose Griffin was shot while taking groceries inside the house. The team took digital photos and tried to entice any lost spirits with their digital audio recorders for any EVP activity. No activity was detected. Next stop was the Arcade Wesleyan Church where 22 month old David Ferrera was found by a janitor. The baby was stuffed in a box and the baby's body laid on top of it's own severed head. We went to the dumpster location to see if EVPs were detected. No activity detected. As Cherie was trying to capture some EVPs in this investigation, she played back an EVP she captured at the Brookdale Lodge, which could have possibly been the voice of the ghost child known as Sara. The voice said..."oh, oh, I dropped you." Could this have been a doll that Sara dropped into the creek and Sara tried to retrieve the doll and instead lost her balance and fell and drowned in the Brookdale Lodge Creek? I was hoping we could get an EVP as clear as the one that Cherie just played for me.
We needed a break from the ghost hunting and stopped off at my godson's 2nd birthday party at the NY Buffet /
4794 Manzanita Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608. My godson Mark Edward Landon Crews was full of bright smiles! I gave little Markee a big hug! I ran into Markees' godmother Jean Paman and her martial art published author husband Joey. Joey will soon be writing a collection of ghost stories about his family in the Philippines, so be on look out for Joey's ghost stories! In fact Joey's brother is writing a book on various ghosts from around the world. I introduced my ghost hunting team to Markee's dad Dirk and the Pamans. We feasted on some delicious food, then we watched Markee blow out the candle on his birthday cake and open up his presents. I snapped away with my camera as Markee opened up my present, a very cool Spider-Man toy! It was joy to see Markee enjoying his birthday around family and friends. After the festivities and the hugs, we departed and continued our trek into the unknown.
As I was driving, I was thinking about this vampire cannibal and what came in mind was what my neighbor Rukesh Kumar told me about his days living in the Fiji Islands. Rukesh told me a story about the Cannibal Warrior Spectre of the Fiji Islands. Along the sandy beaches of Fiji Islands, people have witnessed a ghost of a warrior past carrying a hand carved cannibal fork weapon, or known as a 'brain fork'. The warrior ghost is running and as it approaches the witness it vanishes. The difference between this cannibal and a cannibal like Richard Trenton Chase is that the cannibal in the Fiji Islands was raised to be a cannibal, this was his society. Modern day society does not accept cannibalism. Cannibalism is inhuman and barbaric. Richard went against modern day society and reverted to a primitive stage of mankind. This was Richard's madness.
Our next stop was the home on 2800 Tioga Way. This is where 22 year old Teresa Wallin was killed. Richard spotted her at the pantry market according to Michele. Teresa went there to cash in a check, she arrived at the front door of her home, was shot in the head by Richard. Richard dragged her body into the bedroom where he opened up her stomach and ripped out her intestines. When the husband arrived he was petrified at the horrific sight. The investigating team tried to determine the house, but the house numbers did not coordinate with the book. I asked one of the neighbors who lived in the neighborhood when the crime was committed and he said the house was demolished. When I mentioned Richard's name, he trembled. He said it brought back bad memories. This house is a UTL. (Unable to Locate)...due to the fact it was demolished.
The next stop was the Merrywood House. In this home Evelyn Miroth, son Jason, 2 year old nephew David Ferreira and friend Daniel Meredith were killed. The neighbor found the bodies by looking through the window. The body of David was missing, later found in the dumpster by the church we visited. Evelyn's corpse was severely mutilated. There was a knife wound to her rectum. Jason was shot in the head as he went though the walkway towards the home. The house was abandoned and I was able to snap some photos of inside the home and the child's bedroom. Analyzing the digital photo I took, there appears to be 'white mist'. No EVPs detected. The white mist captured on the photograph is inconclusive, but I will submit the photo with this article.
Our last stop was Richard Trenton Chase apartment. Country Club Apartments, Apartment #15. In the book it said it was one block east of 2909 Burmese (a house he once robbed). We found the apartment and asked Tracie & Bryon Lampson who live in these apartments if that was the right apartment. They confirmed it. Bryon's friend Wayne found the body parts of David Ferreira in the dumpster. Tracie says that when there is a full moon, the apartment complex feels 'odd' and she has heard 'people hollering' and when she went to investigate, there were no people around. She has even heard her name called and there is nobody around calling her name. On this night there will be a full moon, but we won't be around, we are doing this investigation during the day.
As we walked around Richard's former apartment, we were supposed to be 'undercover', but after Cherie learned about the horrendous crimes of Richard, she was enticing Richard to make his presence know, hoping to capture an EVP. No EVPs were ever detected, but we got the confirmation from Tracie Lampson that strange things do occur at this apartment complex. As the investigation ended, Bryon Lampson walked us out of this locked community and sang the song..."If I Was a Serial Killer by the Insane Clown Posse".
This was a very chilling investigation and perhaps it was best we did this investigation during this hot July day, instead under a full moon in the darkest of night. If there is a Lake of Fire, let's hope that Richard has found his home there.
